Power lock modification
 

I have a 88 Rx-7 convertible. power windows, power mirrors, Power every thing except power locks.

What can I do to change my Non-power locks to power locks.

BTW: Can I just take the system out of an Rx-7 and put it into my car.

We tried this on my friends car.......it didnt work. Im sure there is a way, but the door wiring harnesses are all different. its kinda hard, and i think it all has to be incorperated into the alarm system

Nope, it isn't just because of the alarm system.
the wire harneses in the doors did vary a little from year to year.
The part you are over looking is that there are other parts to install. All the wire harnesses are ready for anything that came as an option or standard. If you have ever installed a new e-lock system in a car that wasn't supposed to have it, there are many other little relays that make the thing work.
If the car had the option of having power lockes, but didn't come with it. it will have the wire harness but not the relays.
Mazda did have a habit of having only part of the wire harness. Meaning there would be the wire harness in the kick panel that you plug the door part into.
If you have power windows. there should be no problem as long as you install all the relays. Look in the service manual for the location of the relays and wire harnesses.

S**T I didn't even think of the factory alarm. I guess I have to put in an after market alarm before I put on the power locks.

My next question is what is a desent aftermarket alarm system.

Aftermarket door lock actuators work fine in the doors, and you will need either a controller for the locks or an aftermarket alarm.

Most of the brand name alarms are pretty much the same thing and decent quality. Stick to names like Alpine, Viper, Python, Sidewinder, Clifford and you will be fine.

remember you will need to pulse a ground to the factory alarm's disarm wire when unlocking with a remote keyless or aftermarket security system, or the aftermarket system will trigger the factory alarm when you unlock.
