potential HID setup

im new to this HID stuff. so far i know that you can either get a HID kit and put them in stock housings and blind other drivers.. or you can retro fit HIDS from another car that comes equipped with them stock into housings and have a setup thats legal with a cutoff.

so heres my idea.. i found these housings...

http://www.ilovebodykits.com/product...lbs_Black.html

they have projectors built in so there would be no need to retro fit anything.. so what if a bought an HID kit and installed them into those housings. Would the projector housings create a cutoff and result in a better/safer setup..without having to retrofit?

MDD0101 07-01-09 11:23 PM

for some reason im assuming No..haha

Hypertek 07-01-09 11:44 PM

those are not projectors, just a lense cap they put inside to make em look like projectors.. garbage..

Of course, here your gonna get more neg comments regarding hid kits in housings. There is always debate about that, but honestly long as it doesnt look like ass like a lifted truck with HID, i could care less about being proper etc.

MDD0101 07-01-09 11:53 PM

hmm thanks for pointing that out. do you know a good source for hella h4 housings( or proper housings like Icemarks old kit) to install the hid kit into? i cant find any for some reason

Hypertek 07-01-09 11:58 PM

get some H6054 h4 housings, autopal, hella, cibie, etc.
I dont think those "crystal" style with clear lense will be good because it will be too obvious.

As for hid kit, go with a bi h4 or high/low h4 kit, remember you also need it to do high beams.. Some kits have the hid bulb, and a halogen bulb on it for high beam *but it also acts like a switch to regular halogen so incase cops are near by, it will look like you have stock headlights*. Others will have the hid bulb flick in a upward position to hit the high beam reflector in the housing, so your high beam will be hid.

Same setup that ebay offers. For quarter the price.

Ebay has a kit with the housings mentioned above, H4 high/low hid, all wiring and ballasts for like $80.

I installed that kit on a friends ae86 and it was super easy. Although their 6000k seemed to be a bit to purple for my liking.

I bought Hella housings, installed my HID kit and don't care if I blind anyone. I got them so I can see the road, not to worry about other people seeing shit. I got 4300K bulbs, none of that blue crap :P.

MDD0101 07-02-09 03:41 PM

STR8 FC 07-04-09 01:52 AM

No. The entire point of a "retrofit" is so that the HID light is directed safely and efficiently. Those crappy ebay 7x8s are meant for H4 halogen headlights not HIDs. You would need to find actual HID projector units that are intended for use with HIDs.

I used 2005 Acura TSX projectors and installed them in the H6054 housings for the FC. This way you let the TSX projector handle the light control and the H6054 housing just hold it and acts as an enclosure this results in actually having more usable light, defined cutoff for safety and better looks.

This is the proper way to install HID lighting in your FC. So check out http://store.theretrofitsource.com/ and get yourself some real HID lighting.

If you blind me I'll make sure I take you out as I spin out of control.

Hypertek 07-04-09 05:18 PM

^than you got some serious problems if that happens lol. no seriously people make a big deal out of it. Even a proper retrofit will be illlegal depending on your law because it didnt come factory like that, and arguing with a cop as to "officer i did it the correct way with real proper projectors" will fly over his head. lol Best bet is to stay stock than. I dont mean to be nit picking or arguing, but the reality of it is just that, its still modified no mater what, and nothing will suit everybody.

R/co S/dewayzz 07-04-09 05:19 PM

how much did it cost you to do that, i just might do that haha

If everything's DOT stamped, then it should be legit.

I have never seen an HID bulb that fits into an H4 housing stamped with a DOT approval.
