Possible boost creep, emergency question
 

I think i'm experiencing boost creep. I've been searching up on it and not sure if it's my problem. As some of you know I just installed rb exhaust and i'm hearing a weird noise at 3800 rpm. I'm taking this as the worse case scenario. Tomorrow, i'm having a huge rx7 meet. Of course, i'll be showing off my car. Is it safe to drive with boost creep, considering I don't boost hard? Just under 3800rpm? Or is my car now just a sitting duck?

Well what does the boost gauge say? I hope you have an aftermarket one. It should be obvious if you're getting boost creep if you suddenly see pressure gains above your set level.

Search '3800 hesitation', usually whenever someone has an issue consistently at that RPM it's due to poor electrical grounds.

Its not a hesitation though, its just a noise at 3800-4200.

Don't have my boost gauge installed yet, I have one just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm installing tomorrow.

If you don't floor the gas you should be fine. Just don't boost! Also if you experiancing boost creep you prob just didn't port the wastegate enough.

when i have boost leaks, i dont get fuel cut, ie i dont get boost creep. when i fix all the boost leak, i hit fuel cut everytime after 3rd gear. this is true from something as simple as a vacuum hose poping off to the intercooler hose coming off.

Well you said you're hearing a noise in a mid RPM range, and we can only assume you don't hear it below or above that range. You didn't say that the car bucks, stumbles, or accelerates real fast. If you boost creep badly there should be a notable power increase until you
A) hit fuel cut due to too high of boost
B) run past making real usable power (around 7500RPM usually)
C) pop a line (intake leak)
D) blow the turbo
E) blow the motor
or if you catastrophically break something else... anyway, the point is, what is making you think this is boost creep? Does your gauge max out? Do you have an aftermarket gauge that can confirm the reading? They're known for being inaccurate at this stage in their lives.

I just thought of boost creep as the worst case scenerio. Gauge isn't hooked up yet, if you read above.

You should pick up one of those intake system pressurizing tools. I can't remember who exactly sells them, but they only cost about $25 (there's a website where you can order them) and you pressurize the intake with the car off. It makes finding leaks SO MUCH EASIER, I highly recommend it.

Hey, I was able to accomplish this by fixing and air gun nozzle into the bottom of a peanut butter jar (empty and cleaned of course), the mouth of the jar fit right into the intake coupler before the MAF. You can pressurize it with shop air and actually hear the hiss of the leaking air in the engine bay. Makes it very easy to pinpoint leaks.

Or an unlit propane torch - poke around the engine while it's running and listen for changes in idle speed.
