Is porting really need for less than 400 hp ?

hey people , what i am looking for is to get good power out of my motor. But i also need it to be relieable. I hear the best was to keep it relieable is to not port the motor at all. then others tell me it ok to port it a littie bit cause it will help my tubro spool up quicker and i am not trying to wait past 3,500 to 4,200 rpm for boost. the turbos i am thinkin about going with are BNR hybrid stock turbos or a GT35 but most likey a hybrid stock turbo sence there cheaper

any ideas ??

p.s remeber i am looking for 370 to 385 max hp

this has been discussed many times before. Use the search function

Yes it is do able since I remeber seeing someone on here having 4-500 HP on a stock short block during one of my many long hours of searching for stuff that would come in handy for me later on with my 7

the best way to keep it reliable is to not overheat or detonate it

No. Porting is not necessary.

a street port is not what makes a car unreliable, bad tuning and throwing together parts that are crap are what make a car unreliable

Personally I would not open a motor JUST to port it, but if you are rebuilding it would be very foolish not to.

if you're not trying to have turbo lag, the gt35r on stock ports spool up rather quickly, the bnr stage 4 on the other hand is a different story.. expect full boost around 4500-5 grand.

I agree.
I wouldnt take the engine apart to just port it, unless you know exactly what you are doing.
But if you are taking it apart to rebuild it, why not also port it too since its more convienent that way.

if all you want is 400, then just polish the runners and clean them up. porting is much more than whats on the face of the plate. this is why people get dissapointed when they dont hit the target HP goal they set. bevel the port face where the side seal edge crosses and smooth and port the "bowl" and the runner to a better flowing area.

i asked this cause some one told me that porting can make your apex seals wear faster so it's best to stay with stock and strap and good spooling turbo too it but honestly that sounds a bit to eazy , or maybe i am just been too worryed about some one doing a bad job ? i don't really know cause all the porting i know i have doen on v8's

Who is this "someone"?

Taking the word of somebody is not the best thing you should do. Research and verify the information given to you! There's plenty of information here on this site, have at it!

There are reputable builders on this forum, with some in Florida as well.

Is this the same person who told you that a GT25 or GT28 would be a good turbo choice for a 13B?

Only porting the exhaust improperly can wear out apex seals. Going too wide will cause the seals to deflect, and providing too sharp an upper lip can increase wear or cause them to chip.

Porting on a V8 amounts to nothing more then smoothing out the port runners. Porting on a rotary not only works the runners, but also changes intake and exhaust timing considerably. It is a bit like installing an aftermarket camshaft, in that respect.

But as others have said, you don't need any porting to make 400HP. However, with some porting you will be able to make that power at lower boost levels with less lag.
