Ported the WG *pics*
 

So with a 3" TID and a full corksport exhaust the car was creeping a lot. So we decided to do some porting...

It measures 39mm. The flapper seats perfectly and still has some movement like the stock one. Today the dump pipe is being fabbed up. It should hold boost farely well. :p:

I am about to add a 3" TID to my car, but i still need to port my wastergate :( Im not looking forward to it. How difficult would you say it was? And that bigger flapper is just welded on to the previous one? Cant tell in the photo

The porting is easy with the dremel like tool we had that hooks up to an air compressor. We had a very agressive bit, and the original 30mm port we did took just a few minutes. We had a 33-34mm dsm valve we were going to get welded on.

We brought it to the shop and he said he'd make it bigger, he ported it to where you see it and made a new flapper out of a very large valve. It is a totally new flapper, it is not welded to the stock one.

Where did you get it done and how much. I got my turbo off. Ready for the porting. Im going to port it so i could use the stock flapper. But i would be interested in making it a bit bigger.

That looks like you should have a good improvement, and the job looks top notch. Personally, I would like to see sombody get rid of the waste gate entirely and use a variable geometry turbo for a rex. I know my friend has an '89 shelby dodge daytona with a '91 shelby spirit engine (2.5L I-4 with var. geo. turbo) under the hood. THAT THING FLIES. Also, the best part, you NEVER open the wastegate (it don't have one), and it eliminates some turbo lag. just an idea from the peanut gallery.

We ported it, then took it to a local machine shop to get the 34mm valve put on. The machinist said he could make it even bigger and went to work. The result was a 39mm WG with a better than stock sealing flapper. Top notch work.

You can port to the stock flapper... but that is still a very small port. You can port larger than the stock flapper, while still using the stock flapper. But I would not recommend it, it will give you a lot of lag. Your best bet would be to take it to a machine shop and tell them exactly what you want done, print the picture above to show them. Or if you are up to the task do it yourself.

This is the turbo from my car in the picture. The entire extended port and fabrication of the new flapper and whatnot was only $200 + taxes. Canadian.

holy crap that thign is HUGE, i didnt know you could go that big. i went to 27mm adn though it was huge. did you haev to not center the flapper? so it wuld cover the hole?

The flapper is just an exhaust valve off an older v8 motor. he basically just put the valve in the hole, didnt weld it, but he hammered/ tappered teh end so it could still move like the original. Everything else is just as it was on the stocker, just a larger flap (ie the arm sits in the same place and has play in it like the stocker) He did an incredible job, and I can't wait to test this out!

What is that black spot in the center of the runner wall in the "after" pic? Is that a hole? Did you port too thin and break through, or was it intentionally drilled?

Yeah Im not even sure on that. I never even noticed it until now. I dunno, its not going through anything at all, so I'm not concerned at this point and time

I noticed it when I took the pics, it looked like a slight indent (maybe 1-2mm deep AT MOST) I'm not sure what happened there, but I don't think its anything to be worried about. That iron is thick. As you can see from the shiny insides of the hole, the machinists porting did touch the inside wall a few times, that might be what it's from.
