Port or not to port stock NA

I currently have a friends 89 vert engine apart. It had 180k on it but the oil control o-rings dried out and smokes too much. My question is that the car will remain stock, maybe an intake. Is it worth my time to port the engine. I have seen the mazdatrix porting template and it enlarges the primay port a lot, but it does not change the opening side of the port. I will be using fd rotor housings because i cant find any na ones. So since it will be stock will a street port give it any more noticeable power. I was thinking i should just smooth out the ports.

If your in Cali I'd suggest just cleaning up the ports a little bit. I'm guessing you have emissions to deal with. If not, a mild porting job and a stand alone EMS will do wonders if properly tuned.

Yeah, we have emissions testing in Cali, so the car will run all its cats. I just wondering if i full street port will gain any power with the stock restrictive exhaust?

yes there is a noticable difference in power, nothing extreme but my NA is streetported and I noticed that it pulls pretty well through the whole powerband up to redline

Are you running the complete stock exhaust system, including the cats?
