poor performance

I started having an issue with my 7. Code reads that Aux valves bad- It doesn't have the aux valves, holes are blocked off. The engine did fine w/o them but now the engine lacks drive power almost like fouled plugs. Pulled plugs and swaped them. Also checked/ set TPS by resistance at the ECU. Engine operates normally under light pedal(throttle) load, but more pressure causes sputtering. Any ideas or help welcome.

after driving the car look underneath and look at the cat.... if its glowing red then its clogged.....

GregSL-SE May 24, 2007 10:00 AM

positive it's not the cat.

code???

Year, model, series??? anything???

if it is a S5 are you sure it is not in limp mode?

And your bump has been deleted. Bumps are forbidden here in the 2nd gen RX-7 technical section. Besides... bumping in less than 24-48 hours anywhere is considered rude.

Thanks for the response, wasn't meant to be rude. It's an S5 NA, codes pulled were 30 and 33. I read up on limp mode and does sound like my car. Would those code cause it to run in limp mode? No sure where to go.

Well,
30 - Solenoid, Split Air Valve
33 - Solenoid, Port Air Valve

Check those things? Factory Service Manual?

links in my sig.

I knew one of the first responses would be to pull codes, that's why I listed the codes I pulled. Split air and port valves point to auxilary valves which should not cause the issue correct? Icemark, I believe you pointed me in the right direction with the limp mode. I have searched on running in limp mode and am familiar with it as it relates to OMP. Trying to understand why my car would be running in limp mode if it is, and more importantly how to resolve the issue.

GregSL-SE May 30, 2007 11:46 AM

So if the ecu doesn't send a code which would cause limp, mode why would it run in limp mode?

micah May 30, 2007 11:52 AM

Maybe its not in "limp mode" but rather just lacking power because of a different mechanical failure?

Split air valve sends air to the split air pipe... which sends air to the catalytic converter to prevent it from overheating and aid the catalyst effect (I think).... If that is failing, there's a good chance your cat is toast.... could be why you have no power?

It could be something I'm not thinking of. I swapped the plugs and reset the ECU's codes, it has shown the check engine light once also. I've owned RX-7's since '98, usually between the FSM, Haynes, and searching this board I can resolve the issue. This ones got me.

check timing..? uhm... maf (or whatever equivilant)? coolant temp sensor? intake temp sensor? i dunno about codes, but i'd check things like these... or whatever the split/port solenoid, and all related functioning parts.
