Poll!! Is It Worth It?

Well the problem here consist that my under body is rusted up and has to be cutted out :Kill1: and a whole floor be welded... the best price i can get for the floor alone is about 550, before labor... i can remove everything over time and send the chassi over and it would cost me probably 100-300 dollars in cutting welding and painting. not too sure.

THe car is a 90 "gtu" which i am not sure of.... is the seven worth the money? i purchased the car for 1200.

1200+500+300=2000 an that's w/o labor and being conservative. wit that amount of money you could buy a good used tII or 2-3 n/a's in better condition.

The labor is what's going to burn your pocket.Luckly I work in a bodyshop with a frame rack and everything else.Im in the same situation as you.I have a rusted to shit under body and on top of that a blown motor.I love RX7's so much that I feel as a real rotary enthusiast that it's my duty to restore it to the best condition I can.My car didn't get taken care of as good as it should of been by the previous owner. So the question to is it worth it is all up to you.To me I think it's worth it cause it's my project car.

You could get another car for that price...

boy i wished i was lucky as you.

mechanic - did you know the floor was rusted before you bought it? $1200 is kinda steep for a car in that condition

sar 01-02-06 01:41 PM

No, don't repair it, despite adding another RX-7 to the junkyard - actually you might could get a body from a more southernly junkyard with less rust - it's in your best fortunes to look for another.

Unless values have changed a lot in the last year 2000 should be able to buy you a very good looking NA RX-7 which would have some added features over a GTU including good paint, alarm, sunroof, power windows, central locking, tilt steering wheel, 4 piston front breaks, all vented rotors.

For the trouble it would be worth I would junk the GTU, get principle back to 2000+, then get a great looking car. To get a T2 that would be worth it (condition wise) I would suggest looking in the 4s or higher; people who sell their car cheap probably havent taken care of it as much as somebody who wants a little bit more.

only problem in brooklyn is that, its virtually impossible to find a fc in good condition at a decent price... i acutally brought this one because it was the best option i have, there was another NA with dents all over, doesnt burn oil, and doesnt run premix... wtf?, rusted underbody, PS and ac removed... painted ugly green/blue chamelion... red interior.. the guy refuse to go under 1400... this one has no ac, runs okay, decent looking all around, rust underbody... 1500 talk down to 1200... then there is one tII with 38000 miles at a dealer for 9g... sooo in my best interest, i purchased the cheaper and somewhat better condition....

i dont have much choice, and i dont like to buy cars without the time to go look at it.

TitosToy 01-02-06 02:55 PM

gotta do what you gotta do i guess. if you have more time you sholud look for 1 in the south as sar mentioned. but if you cant find another one then fix up that one

JoshRX7 01-02-06 03:24 PM

If you love the car... fix it. If you don't... take that money, travel and get you a nice TII. Shop around. There are some nice TII's out there to be had. Nicer ones are in the $4,500-$7,000 range. Hard to get more than $6500 for any TII FC... would have to be something out of this world.

I'll save it from the junkyard if your going to sell it.

Alex6969 01-02-06 03:32 PM

tell you what, save that money and buy yourself a nice NA, one with low miles and had been taken care of. I got my 86 GXL for $900 with only 104k on it. these good deals are out there for the taking. its better to learn about the RX7 on an NA, they're damn near impossible to blow, whereas with a turbo they tend to blow alot more than NAs. Thats just what i've seen posted on here.

MARTIN 01-02-06 03:49 PM

I bought my 91 Vert for $600 and it was posted right here on the forums.... So good luck with it...
