plugging the air pump outlet bad?

I removed the air pump silencers and hosing a while back and got tired of hearing the groaning sound that it makes. I took a furniture leg cap and drilled a 1/4-1/3" hole in the top of it and plugged up the small hose section coming out of the air pump. It sounds great now but I'm just wondering if this could damage the air pump or heat up the engine or something. Since it's hindering the air flow coming out now I just want to make sure it's not going to damage something.

just take the pump off if u have aready took the hoses off. but if u have a n/a motor
the 5th and 6th ports will not work. also get a double pulley for the alt., if u take the pump
off. or put one of the small filters on the end of it. the little ones that go on the valve covers of piston cars. that whould quite it down some.

.... why did you remove the silencer and hosing and leave the pump? People usually remove the airpump and leave the silencer. The double alt pulley is like 20 bux shipped and will net you maybe one hp.

Well it was mostly removed when I got the car so I just removed the rest. I'm not going to remove the pump itself because I've been told you have to have it to idle halfway decent. The hose coming from the air box is still connected. I've seen lots of people do what I'm doing.

The airpump has nothing to do with idle.

Remove the air pump and the water pump/ alt belt will slip at higher rpms and that isn't good. I've no idea if plugging it will do harm or not.

Someone should make a idler pulley to replace the airpump and make some money selling it. I think dual belt underdrive pulleys S..K. Personal predjudice.

I thought it had something to do with fuel? That's what I was told when it roughs up your idle. The hole in the plug is a little bigger round then a pencil. The hose itself is a little more than half an inch inner diameter so I don't think it builds up that much pressure. Maybe I might poke a small hole or 2 on the edge of the plug for excess air to escape and hopefully it won't bring back the groaning sound.
