please help me identify these. 88 TII

let me start by saying that i replaced the engine in my 10AE alst summer and have been trying to diagnose idle problems ever since. i wanted to post pictures of these wires that are not connected and or have had the connectors broken off in hopes that someone would be able to help me identify them and get them corrected. also enclosed is another pic of a vacuume line that i had capped off with a vacuume nipple. i capped it because i didnt know what went to it or what its function is. the nipple is located on the rear side on the intake manifold, above the brake booster line and above another larger vacuume line. i can try and take more pics if need be. i've been through the service manual on the wires and can't figure anything out. i'm a good RX-7 mechanic and i know a lot about them. i'm no kevin landers but i have owned 24 RX-7's and perform all of my own work. if anyone can help, i would be very greatful!

yeah ive got all these random connectors for all the random options my car doesnt have too. ive tried to just tuck the unnecessary ones away to forget about them forever and ever

Whizbang 04-06-08 08:39 AM

hmm...id assume they are check connectors. What are the color does on the wire? You might able to track them in the Haynes manual wiring diagrams.

My TII is idling funky too. Not really sure whats up yet. Has like three problems rolled into one.

ill take a look at mine later and see what my car has going on.

mazdaverx713b 04-07-08 08:13 AM

i'll check on the exact wire colors and post back.

mazdaverx713b 04-24-08 01:46 PM

ok, the wire colors are as follows: the top two wires without the connector are color coded black with white stripe and the other wire is solid black. the second set of wires with no connector are color coded black with brown stripe and the other wire is solid brown. the wires with the connector are part of a sender that is threaded into the back of the water pump housing. the wires are solid black. i KNOW for sure this needs to be plugged in. where should i plug this into?

mazdaverx713b 04-26-08 12:57 AM

in looking at the wiring diagram, it looks as if this sender's (on the eback of the water pump housing) two solid black wires plug into the black with brown stripe and solid brown wires. is this correct?

j9fd3s 04-29-08 03:33 PM

isnt that for the air control valve?

polito Racing 04-29-08 03:57 PM

yup thats what it is the air control valve cables without the plug.

mazdaverx713b 04-30-08 04:35 PM

the top set of wires are sourced from the acv. which conncetor do they plug into?

polito Racing 04-30-08 04:56 PM

if not mistaken the cables in pic one go with the plugs on pic 2. apparently the plugs toasted and fell off. I really dont remember which one goes to which right of the top of my head but if you go to the fsm or the haynes manual you will be able to match them. the other black plug olaso goes to the Air control valve it has another cable that comes out by the top part of it.

mazdaverx713b 04-30-08 06:02 PM

ok, i'll go test that and post back. any idea on the vacuue line?

mazdaverx713b 04-30-08 07:20 PM

no dice, the second set of wires are already plugged into teh water temp sensor on the back of the t-stat housing

mazdaverx713b 05-01-08 09:26 AM

another bump on the log... next to my water thermo sensor is another sensor that is threaded into the water pump housing. i had originally thought that the sensor #2 was the water thermo sensor. nope, i was wrong. i checked out my 88 TII and it does not have this second sensor. anyone have any ideas what it may be? *the engine in my 10AE is a jspec replacement* this may help explain things..

First pic looks like the horn connectors.

The rest is stuff you probably dont have.

have you gone through this site? http://www.teamfc3s.org/info/articles/idle.html . Also, use a pressure tester to check for vacuum/boost leaks. www.boostpro.net/prodtester.html sells one, but you can easily make a tester out of home depot parts. Another thing I've seen is removing the UIM and building a custom tester to pressure test each runner of the LIM and its associated vacuum lines (b/c it's hard to see everything with the UIM on).

thank you for the good links. i have gone through most of of the tests on teamfc3s. here's a couple pics of the extra sensor that is next to the water thermo sensor. the wire colors on it are solid black.

thank you for the advice but the wires are no where near the either of the horns.

ITSWILL 05-01-08 01:17 PM

some "zoomed out" pics might help or else im playing where's waldo under the hood of my car trying to help you.

mazdaverx713b 05-01-08 04:12 PM

they're threaded into the rear of the t-stat housing

Icemark 05-01-08 04:21 PM

4 bumps deleted. No bumps allowed in the 2nd gen tech section!

ITSWILL 05-01-08 04:36 PM

yeah the sensor on the left isnt there on my car so i dont know what to tell you about that.

But as far as the unplugged connectors im trying to figure out where under the hood they are or are they all in the same area.

ITSWILL 05-01-08 04:38 PM

ok is this all by the air out tube of the turbo?

mazdaverx713b 05-01-08 05:46 PM

the connectors are near where the air pump should be. i've been through the haynes manual and can make no sense of these wires.

mazdaverx713b 05-02-08 10:57 AM

would more pics be helpful? as a note, i replaced the water thermo sensor and it did not help or hurt the idle.

ITSWILL 05-02-08 02:36 PM

yeah some zoomed out pics would help, the previous owner took off the air pump on mine. If you could get a pic of that side of the engine bay that would be good.

So you have the one "T" connector in question and two female generic connectors 2 male generic connectors, a yellow connector and a vacuum in question. Is that right or is there more?

Is the first pic right next to the front of the passenger side fender? If so the yellow connector is the fuel pump test connector.
