PLEASE HELP, almost done with car!!!
So I am really close to being done, but I have no idea where some of the vacuum lines and wire clippy things go. I found the fsm, but it doesn't make any sense to me... I am sooo close. So, if you fine, classy folks could lend the guy who is almost done with his very first engine swap some help, that would be amazing. I would like to drive the car to work tomorrow. But, as it stands right now, I have NO ONE to help me, so, I turn to teh interwbz.
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...805_171401.jpg This first one I think is a little sliding clip of sorts? I wanna say it goes to something for the oil metering system, but again, am very unsure of what I am doing. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...805_171352.jpg This one looks like a ground? or for the starter? also, the wire clip shown here has a broken wire. Not sure what it does, or what it is for, but it was broken on the car anyway, so I am skeptical of it's importance. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...805_171308.jpg As you can see, these come off the transmission, but I have no idea what they are for, so I hooked them up to get them out of the way. If someone could tell me what they do, and if they are important, which color wire goes to which one would be great. if they are back up lights, I do not care about them at this point lol. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...805_171253.jpg Here we have another ground? and another side slide clip thing... No idea.... http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...805_163809.jpg Vacuum line obviously, but to what and where does it go? I have plenty of extra vacuum line, but no idea where it goes. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...805_163744.jpg This is over by the pressure sensor, and i think it may be a test clip? may not actually hook into anything? But again, not sure. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...805_163733.jpg Now I know this serves a purpose, but what? and where does it go? http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...805_163655.jpg I think the exposed metal nipple i picture here is for the other end of the pressure sensor? The car is a 90 gxl. PLEASE HELP ME!!! I AM AT MY WITS END, IT SHOULDN'T HAVE TAKEN A MONTH TO DO AN N/A TO N/A SWAP... i just want it done so I can have a car again... This is my only vehicle, and I need it to go back to work tomorrow... I am sooo close to having it done... I think... |
Second and fourth pic should be for the starter. The Black/Red wire goes to the starter solenoid. The Black wire, which has constant voltage on it provided by the battery is the voltage wire for the starter, while the other Black wire, which should never have voltage on it is the ground for the starter.

I have plenty of extra vacuum line, but no idea where it goes. the little nipple on the phelonic spacer behind the TB will be used by the vacuum nest solenoids,, have lost my routing diagram,, can t help beyond that,, if in doubt, seal it over http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...805_163744.jpg This is over by the pressure sensor, and i think it may be a test clip? may not actually hook into anything? IN regards to the ground and power to the starter solenoid, does it matter which bolt the wires go to, or does it not matter as long as they are connected properly?
|
power to solenoid spade,, cant get that wrong
earth in bolt does not matter,, as long as there is a dirty big fat earth cable to the block or gearbox directly to the battery ( and body ) |
JUST ABOUT THERE I THINK!!
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...805_214531.jpg This is how the thermowax was setup on the other engine, so when this one broke off, I just copied the pieces over... cost me ten bucks for a wrench I will use once. :/ If it is wrong, please let me know. I added the center three way piece as again, that's how it was on the other car. Just doesn't make a lot of sense as to why it would be connect like that if the side piece of the three way connector vents to the atmosphere anyway... I dunno. It's on there now lol. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...805_214811.jpg I took this picture as a reference where the next picture goes to... It is grounded to the bellhousing. But the clip in the next picture... goes.. where? http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...805_214740.jpg Now this is, as you can see on the exhaust side of the engine. That clip is grounded to the bellhousing, and is just kinda... dangling there. Where does that guy go? http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...805_215201.jpg Now, in a previous picture I posted, there was an exposed nipple for a vacuum line, that I thought was for the pressure sensor that is bolted to the frame on the passenger side fender well. This is how I "fixed it". But it looks kinda... off? |
cant make anything from your wax-cam/double throttle pics,, you should consult the FSM for this,, or just set it up so the secondary delay throttle is open
( as it is on NA once warmed anyhows ) there is detail differences in some tb's between models and auto/manual and it is probs just easiest to be sure the throttle delays are open full time if you cant work it out the dangling spade clip goes from the bell housing ( on t2 it is on the secondary rail ) to a spade clip that is bolted above it on the firewall,, close to the lipped join, directly up from the bell housing if you do not fit this it WILL cause a staging hesitation issue Map sensor -- on t2 it comes from a nipple on the back of the ACV,, suggest you look there for a spare vac nipple |
I really appreciate the help man! In regards to the wire that goes from the bellhousing to the firewall clip... I can;t seem to find a clip anywhere... I saw where something may have been bolted to the firewall, just under where the vin is stamped, but there is no clip. Just a small piece of metal to the firewall. did something break??
|
These pictures are just to show what I was tyring to explain with the bellhousing clips. Or possible lack thereof
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...805_224323.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...805_224301.jpg Unless of course, it does just clip to that little metal piece?? |
sure does
|
It seriously just clips to that little metal piece? Lol. Thanks man, you're way awesome for the help.
|
Yep thats an engine ground. Dunno bout on s5 but on s4 itll affect your 3500 rpm hesitation just like most other engine grounds on the car. Lol)
|
Awesome guys, thanks SO much for all the help. If I weren't so DAMNED broke from this car, I would pay pal each of you 20 bucks. But I am current neg 97.23 in the bank haha. pay day is still a week away.... Now, all I have left to do, I THINK, is unbolt driveshaft from rear diff, to slid back into tail shaft on tranny, put my a/c p/s rack, bolt up exhuast, put rad. back in, put battery back in, pull efi fuse and crank it a bit to build oil pressure so it doesn't start off dry... put fuse back in... and Pray the the Good Lord finds it in His infinite mercy to have that car start and run.... Any commonly over looked tidbits when installing an engine, in case I missed something? I can't think of anything, but then again, that's why I would overlook it lol.
Also(sorry for such a longwinded post, but I am horribly dehydrated and sleep deprived and excited for being so near completion) I installed my hks super mega flow ricer cone. It says I have to block off smog pump...which is the air pump right? Isn't that bad? |
Air pump produces air to the cat to help it burn off hydrocarbons and whatnot. Disabling that while still running a cat (especially if your running straight from that header you had in other posts) will cause your ct tto overheat and clog up. I'm sure you get the idea of what happens when your exhaust gasses have nowhere to go due to a clogged cat. Even if it isn't all the way clogged, my old cat on my s4 got glowing red and caught my entire exhaust on fire all because my tps was out of adjustment and was running super rich. Not sayong yours will do this , or it will happen to you, but it has to me.
I'm assuming you are refeering to a.cone intake though right? If so it isnt necenecessary to disable the smog pump, what I did was went and got a small breather filter from autozone and put it at the end of the intake hose for the smog punp that would have normally attached to the stock air box. Then just zip tied it up in place so that it didnt fall and somehow get caught in thw belts. |
How the hell do I connect the driveshaft to the transmission??? pretty much the last step here... I took the four bolts out of the diff/driveshaft, and it wouldn't budge, so I started tapping it with a hammer, and still nothing....
halp plox. |
Maybe take a pry bar to it to get it seperated from the diff. Never heard of the driveshaft not seperating from the diff before. Once out the other end will just slide into the tail of the tranny and you move the back part of the driveshaft to mate with the diff, pull it back so its flush and install bolts and you are done.
|
OK! So I got the driveshaft off, slid into the trans, rebolted the driveshaft to the diff, filled tranny with 2 quarts of gear oil, going to go out there and bolt up the exhaust... only a few small hoses, and a battery stand in my way!! MUSHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!!! ahem... anyway, got some more pictures for you knowledgeable folks, hopefully we can finish my car!
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...809_202522.jpg this line is very small, as you can see, and comes off the bottom of the radiator. wtf is it?? http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...809_202504.jpg Here is another one of the small lines, but also has a much larger hole next to it as you can see. Don't know what either of the small lines are for, nor the larger one, as I thought I had everything hooked up... I know these are all very remedial questions, but this is really my very first time doing anything on a car short of changing oil/brakes... I did shocks once, but that was really easy.. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...809_202441.jpg This larger hose is coming from the back of the block, and looks like it might be a heater hose of some sort? But the heater hose on the driver's side is already attached tot he firewall... so what is this hose, and where does it go?? http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...809_202351.jpg And lastly, these two small vacuum hoses... one is coming from the firewall, and the other comes from the charcoal canister.. I have no idea where either of them connect to.. PLEASE HELP GUYS, MY CAR IS JUST ABOUT THERE!!! THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL THE ADVICE!! |

Alright, I need to refrain from asking my questions on here when I am tired... The larger hose is for the rad return, I figured as much, but I am still confused on the two smaller holes on the bottom. Also, the one coming from the back, and charcoal canister.

this line is very small, as you can see, and comes off the bottom of the radiator. wtf is it?? Maybe to cool the auto tranny oil. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...809_202504.jpg Here is another one of the small lines, but also has a much larger hole next to it as you can see. Don't know what either of the small lines are for, nor the larger one, as I thought I had everything hooked up... The other end of the auto tranny cooler built into the rad. You already figured the other one out. I know these are all very remedial questions, but this is really my very first time doing anything on a car short of changing oil/brakes... But the heater hose on the driver's side is already attached tot he firewall... so what is this hose, and where does it go?? Looks like the hose which connects to the pipe that sends air to the cat. That hose should come from the back of the intake manifold, which has a passage in it from the ACV (air control valve) (spit-air exit). http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...809_202351.jpg And lastly, these two small vacuum hoses... one is coming from the firewall, and the other comes from the charcoal canister.. Didn't see if all of these had been answered, here's my .02.
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...809_202522.jpg Leave these alone, they are only used on auto trans cars. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...809_202504.jpg I believe you answered this. Smaller hole is to be left alone like the first picture. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...809_202441.jpg If you do not have a cat, plug that larger lower line. If you do have a cat, this is what the split air tube connects to. For the smaller tube with cracks in it, read below. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...809_202351.jpg I believe the disconnected hose closer to the bottom of this pic (the ends are all cracked) is a vent for the AC, but I'm not so sure (if that one comes through the firewall and sort of points down, I am correct, and you want to leave it disconnected, drains the water accumulation from the AC inside the car). The other one closer to the top is probably the vent for the sub-zero start assist (looks to be already removed), take it out, it's worthless... |
