Planning to buy this FC. Some weird symptoms

Hi, I am in search of a 2 gen an I came across this one in decent condition. I have a list of questions that I e-mailed the owner and here is one of the respond related to the engine.

From e-mail

Q6) Any trouble for a cold start? When it first start in the morning, does it go up the 3K, then drop to 1.5K (like in the picture) then idle? What's the car idling at when fully warmed up?

Answer to Q6:

The car goes up to 3k and drops to about 1,800, it idles at about 1,100._ If the a/c is turned on, it will drop to 750 where it should be, but when you turn off the a/c it's back up to between 900-1,100._ There are a couple potential causes for this, the most obvious being a vaccum leak._ The next would be a mis-adjusted TPS (it and the throttlebody are brand new last year btw), or a malfunctioning BAC._ Either way, it's not enough to bother me, it's been like this for years.

The question you should be asking is if there are any hot-start issues._ That's indicative of a bad engine._ I have no hot start issues at all.

Q7) If you could do this little test for me, it would be great. After the car fully warm up, can you remove the rad cap and take a look at the coolant level? Do you see a steady stream of bubbles?

Answer to Q7:
Hum, I've never done this before, I can do that over the weekend.

I spent few hours in search but couldn’t seem to find similar situation/experience (ie: high idle, drop to normal rpm when A/C on). As quoted from the owner, the car is all original parts with original mileage of 115,000 km (~72,000 miles).

Is this a potential severe problem with engine and I should pass on it? (as I read sometimes people tends to bring up the idle point to cover up some major issue)

btw, the next two picture I believe is taken when the car is @ the 1,800 stage. The boost gauge shows ~20 VAC. Is that somewhat within the range? (cone intake, 3" cat back with high flow cat)

TIA for all the helps/advises.

Q6: Sounds like a malfunctioning BAC Valve. Could be a faulty unit, bad wiring or a blown transistor in the ECU--all easily repaired.

20" Vacuum is great at idle.

Once the BAC is repaired, reset the idle to stock, then set the TPS. All procedures can be found with a search in the FC forum.

The 3k RPM startup is standard AWS. Revs to 3k for 15(ish) seconds then as the thermowax melts with rising temps the idle drops to normal.

The bubbles in the coolant would be indicative of a coolant seal failure. Requires a rebuild.

does malfuunctioning BAC explained the high idle?

How much/difficult to repair the BAC? I mean in my area there are no RX-7 speciailist, so I most likely would be doing it myself.

btw, would be great if anyone can point to me the right link to fix the BAC, has been search with no luck. :(

The BAC could be one of the possible problems. Its easy to fix you just replace it :). I would suggest getting a FSM read it cover to cover if you can/have time. This and reading old forum posts should get you up to speed on the car. But from the sounds of the e-mail the owner sent back to you he seems to be a little more knowledgeable than the standard non-enthusiast RX-7 owner.

Rotary Racer - point well taken. reading FSM as we speak. :) Thanks.

Other than BAC/ readjusting the TPS, any other potential issue would cause the idling?
