PITA Spedo cable

does anyone have a trick to getting the s4 speedometer cable back in the back of the cluster, its like it wont reach, even with a tug. I tried just putting the right side of the cluster in on an angle first so It was closer but its just only like touching it.

or are my hands to fat? :wallbash:

I've only been able to connect the speedo with the cluster completely in and going by feel. Yes, there's not much room. When your arm and hand are bent backwards and you're getting scrapes from the HVAC and brackets, you're pretty close. :)

If you don't have enough slack,go underneath the car and unclip the speedo cable from the frame rail and that should give you enough slack to clip-it back on the speedo.

This is in a s5, but im guessing the tolerances are the same... but i couldnt get the speedo cable on unless i had the gauge cluster bolted in place. then you go under the dash, and reach up and clip it in place. it's very crampt and you cant even really see what you are doing, but you'll eventually get it.
basicly what pfsantos said.

I believe I've done this once before, but it was a very long time ago. I removed the bezel from around the gauge cluster, and then unbolted the gauge cluster. You can then pull the gauge cluster out a bit, but you may need to unclip one of the wire connectors. You should now be able to reach the back of the speedometer to clipon the cable. Oh, and you're absolutely right...it was a PITA.

I just plug in the speedo side and then the easier transmission side, that way you have as much slack as you need. My problem is that I have a custom transmission mount for my installed fd tranny that blocks the connection, so no speedometer for the time being
