Is a Piston Motor Compression Check Different form a Rotary Compression check?

my car ain't starting all whats left to check is the Alternator and sadly to say thee "Compression check" my TII has 114000 miles on it so by any chance is a "Rotary"comprssion check different from a Piston motor compression? I took m car to a Mechanic that has no experience with Rx-7's and did a compression check soooo... i don't know if hes right or wrong?

uh....well...yes...there is a diff...I just hope that he used a very short probe..no longer than the spark plug....and you will need to release the air or after a few turns the needle will hit the peg at the end of the scale...you are looking for three even bounces...if the probe was a long one then the apex seals are gone...
