Pioneer in dash dvd wiring in your FC

im stumped, im ok with wiring these things up, i did some research on this model i have and it says something about wiring this very light greenish wire up to your parking break switch or something? im hoping someone here will know more about it than me, that pretty much it... just power, ground, illumination, and this wire...
where in the heck do i mount it to in my FC? without wiring it up it says "this function is not available wile driving" on the screen... pictures are grand! =)
it is a pioneer AVX-P7300DVD

You will get much better results if you promise to put up installed pictures ;)

heck ya! ill take a few pics of my wire speghetti mess and my ghetto looking radio ipod connecter with no radio surround bezel :\

that is a feature so you cant watch video and be distracted while driving, i dont know if pioneer is neg. or pos. triggered, but you either ground it or hook it up to switched pos. there is no need to hook it up to the parking brake

pioneer is neg triggered. i have the AVIC-n1
great head unit!

certifiednut 10-15-07 07:20 PM

on pioneer.com it said to hook it up to the pos. feed side of the switch, have you read the install manual?

Hook it to ground. Some units are finicky when it comes to that, so if you want you can mount a switch somewhere and hook the other end to ground. Then toggle it a few times until it comes on. Parking brake wires are rarely 12v.

certifiednut 10-15-07 07:21 PM

with what it said on the website i would just ground the wire

KTv6 10-16-07 08:25 AM

hmm, i grounded it and it still says the same thing "this function is not available wile driving"

when you guys say "pos switch" what switch are you refuring to? =\
can i have an example

certifiednut 10-16-07 08:30 AM

the switch on the bottom of the e-brake handle, under the console, that tells the dash light to light up when the handle is pulled

you might have to add a switch to that ground. some units you need to simulate pulling up and down on the e-brake 4 or 5 times before it will operate. just ground it with a switch and toggle it a couple of times. should work then.

As a temp. solution, strip an 1/4" insulation off that wire, and when the unit is on, touch it on one of the radio brackets a few times, then hold it on. Get creative with one of those spring clamps, a paper clip, or clothes pin. Later, you can hook up a switch to ground, if the test works out.

The above assumes the system looks for a ground signal. If it doesn't, it should still not damage the unit.

PDF installation manual for this model...may need to register for link to work:

Essentially, you attach the wire to the power supply side of a switch that grounds when closed. This is just a fancy way of saying the unit looks for a switched ground (i.e. when you pull the parking brake). So my previous post should work out.

ok, so i can mount the wire to the positive side of a regular switch like this?
sorry im so illiterate at this stuff :\

As a Installer of Pioneer gear and customer (I Use it in my FC3S)
1. Take green wire and add wire if necessary to reach your mounting spot for your switch.

2. Take another length of wire and ground it to the chassis and ensure it will reach to the switch mounting location.

3. If you have a two position rocker switch like pictured above attach wires to the blades on the switch it wont matter which wire to which terminal because your using it as a interrupter switch

When you start the unit, click the switch to off (0) then to on (1) and it will say don't watch movies while driving then press the ok button then your good to go.
