pilot bearing seal?

wich way does this pilot bearing seal go in? With the black side touching the bearing or the light side touching the bearing?

What I remember about it is: the taper points in, towards the engine. I think that puts the black part out. When you're putting the tranny back in the taper lets the shaft in easily. If you've never put a transmission in one of these cars; make sure you tilt the engine back. If you don't, it won't go, believe me! I found that 2x6 blocks will fit nicely in the void behind the headlights, allowing you to put a board across to hold the engine tilted back. Good luck.
