Well, I am so happy I finally got my mufflers that I ordered, and all I have to do now is weld a couple of joints and get the pipe, and I will have my side exit exhaust made. Once I get it together I will get some more pictures of it up here. I am thinking I might have a small clearence problem with it though, I am hopeing not, and I think it should work. But my brother is saying that it won't go on without dragging over speed bumps. Well anyways tell me what you think of the mufflers, I figured that they would be a little more show quility, but I am thinking that they will last a long time because they are really thick walled and heavy. If you can't read the scale in one of the pictures, one muffler weighs 8 lb.

After justin killed 3 different, 4 total mufflers with his side exit exhaust, he is now running a rear exit exhaust again.

Good luck, but Ill be suprised if those mufflers last a week if you have headers.

I think they will last a long time, they are thick as hell. They are made of steel that is just a little thinner than the header pipeing.

I hope it isn't as loud as I am thinking it will be, but I am pretty sure I will get some real tickets for disturbing the peace with these. :D

Justins mufflers weighed between 10 and 15 lbs depending on which time it was... Weight is far from a measure of low long the muffler will last. The heaviest one was also the shortest lived. It didnt live through the first test drive.

how were the mufflers "killed"?

gonna assume exhaust temps, rotarys don't like universal mufflers:D .

Wow, thoes are huge. ive wanted side exit exhaust ever sence the first of these threads showed up. Where do you guys have it exiting? to be legal in NH where i am it has to exit behind the doors so thats what im gona do, i figure my muffler might survive a bit longer back there compared to right after the turbo

i know the rotaries run hotter.. i was referring to why they died when setup as side exit..

since they were setup closer to the engine block usually right after the header.

Justins was exiting right in front of the rear wheel. And he was using Edelbrock Performer mufflers, with ceramic packing rated at 1800+ degrees. The packing was burned out of them all, and the physical damage varied, from the welds on the outlet melting, and the pipe falling off the muffler to the one he blew the side completely off, and every single one of them had internal welds fail, and the muffler rattled.

The longest lasting muffler lasted 4 or 5 days, the shortest lasted about 30 min.

Ok, do any generic mufflers work on the rotary engine? There is always the possibility of just putting your main cat back in before the Y split, unless you are going for a true dual :eek: routing.

Ohh yes true duals, I ordered two mufflers to do that and latter on I will make a collector and give it a try, to see which one I like more. But for now it will be true duals once I get it together.


And I am pretty sure that his mufflers were not breaking because of exess heat, they were breaking because the rotary engine has such strong exhaust pulses, and that was busting the welds and blowing the gutts out of them.

And I talked to one of the main guy at Spintech Mufflers, and he said that they have alot of there mufflers on rotary engine ariplanes, but he didn't know if anyone has bought them to put the mufflers on there car. And seeing as he said they have had no complaints of them breaking on a rotary yet, that is why I bought them.

But you do pay a pretty lot for them ($163 for those two) and if they do start to break I'm gona be super pissed!!!

I think that will be really loud though since it will not have silencers and is a bit shorter. Be prepared. ;)
