ok I am getting ready to purchase an exhaust system for my fc. I would like to see some pics of your exhaust on the car. i did a search and didnt really find anything. thanks

Here is my 3in exhaust still in progress, made by Opus Garage ( me :) )

get this best bang for the buck muffler on the market in my opinion. with a custom made exhaust tubing from turbo to muffler.
forget all about those HKS, Apexi mufflers/exhausts... over priced and arnt any better. went from a 2.5" with a resonator and 2.5" muffler, to a this 3" all the way no cats/resonator or anything with this muffler and the car got much deep and quieter. cant beat it in my opinion... Hope you like it..:icon_tup: question on your choice to use aluminum. because im guessing you used 6061 like most people use. wich anneals at around 750*-775* and can have problems holding strength any any temp above that. and after a drive it will cool and become weak. and then another drive and park it will anneal again, and again , and again. this will cause considerable problems. I forsee you regretting using aluminum for exhaust. theres a reason for people using titanium or inconel and not aluminum when wanting a lighter exhaust... just something to think about oh, and i am a certified welder and have studied metal properties and strengths. so im no expert. but am a little experienced in this... |
I have aluminum exhaust ( cat-back ) on civic for long time, no problem so far..
Downpipe and manifold must be steel, but cat-back system can be aluminum because temp. aren't so high... |

On rx7 exhaust are going 70mm tips.. All aluminum exhaust are 2mm thickness.. |

I think whenever that happens, they were using the normal drop-down search rather than the advanced search. That thing is useless, advanced search FTW.

An aluminum exhaust on a rotary is a complete waste of time and money, and a good example of a solid lack of research. All of the properties of aluminum severely degrade with temperature rise (corrosion resistance, stiffness, fatigue). The melting point of 6061 is only 1090 degrees fahrenheit. Its quite possible to see nearly twice that temperature even under cruising conditions. The exhaust will quickly corrode and fall off during running.
Then again, any weight savings offered by the aluminum are quickly negated by the severe back pressure power loss caused by using horrible chambered mufflers. Then again, don't take my word for it. Take the word of every muffler and exhaust system manufacturer using steel, stainless, or inconel for its materials, every automotive manufacturer, and every racing team on the planet. (Motocycle muffler canisters don't count, they are massively insulated by the packing material and flow through design). |

I have built many exhausts among other things... And i KNOW to NEVER use aluminum as exhaust material. as stated in my post above, i went to school for this. so i dont have to search the internet for answers...
but if you really wanna make exhaust out of aluminum its your car, and your money... do it. just dont spread ideas to unkowing people that its the right thing to do. btw, whats the average exhaust temps on a civic? i bet no where close the the 1700* and above temps that rotarys are making. |
Yeah Honda EGTs are nothing, especially N/A. I had a friend with an LS engine in an EG hatch that drove from his house to mine-roughly 30 miles and his SS header was cold enough to leave my hand on for as long as I chose.

Pipe size is everything...
There is many race cars with aluminum exhaust.. 800+ hp evo, skyline etc.. With very aggressive tuning ( timing ).. They will get high temp. on full boost.. And you still didn't make aluminum exhaust.. ? I was go school for this too.. And school isn't everthing.. |

Either way, even with a thicker wall, that dosnt change the fact that exhaust temps on a rotary are much higher than aluminums efficiency range. real race cars, Like F1 Indy cars use Inconel. BIG money tuning shops from JDM land use stainless and Titanium. everyday muffler shops use mild steel. No one that knows what they are doing uses aluminum. you may be confused with aluminized steel. wish is nothing more than steel that has been hot-dip coated with aluminum-silicon alloy. wich is just a coating to protect against rust. like galvanized steel. pipe size doesn't mean anything, think about the corrosion aluminum has yeah it would be good for a catback but not for long... so its a waste of money as you will be replacing it once it falls apart.
