Is that a distributer?

InMyWhiteTII 03-19-06 06:49 PM

Yeah for a second I thought it was just the camera angle...thats definately a distributor...thats an interesting trick. Good looking car

CrackHeadMel 03-19-06 06:56 PM

megasquirted?

vipers 03-19-06 09:11 PM

very nice! yeah, some european fc's came stock w/ a distributor...... but im sure that one was installed later...maybe some performance advantage.....

thats weird man, thats weird. I want a megasquirt

brent clement 03-19-06 10:14 PM

Nice and clean. Looks like really good work. Did he do the fabrication all him self?

I noticed in the one picture he has two MSD Blaster II coils mounted horizontally. I originally mounted mine that way but have not fired the engine yet. I was told the coils would short or blow up. Is this car running? If so, how long has he had it on the road?

RX7Junkman 03-20-06 07:00 AM

yeah its drivable, just needs tuning and yeah hes' fabricated everything himself

hondahater 03-20-06 07:56 AM

the distributer is probably an msd one? Alot of puerto ricans do this to control spark while they have some sort of fuel computer that only controls fuel. nice looking setup would be interested to see how it goes for him. what sort of turbo is he running.

For megasquirt people use the FORD EDIS sytem which has no distributor.

My brother is the first documented Ca18det in the world to use Megasquirt, he also has megaview which will replace all of your guages and put onto a little LCD-like screen, pretty badass for around 400 bucks.

Yep, the for the map sensor, all you do is have a hose from any intake manifold vacuum source to the ECU. If I remember, don't quote me on this, it can read up to 25 psi, and the mods to make it read higher are simple.

EXACTLY!!

Most PR'icans run the Haltec F seiries ECU (fuel only).

Nice pics!

alwayssideways 03-20-06 11:39 AM

still has A/C too clean but if you pull the ac the engine bay would look cleaner IMO.

classicauto 03-20-06 12:03 PM

is that just an FD upper or upper and lower?

88t2romad 03-20-06 02:24 PM

probably a fd upper with a s5 lower.

RX7Junkman 03-20-06 06:20 PM

its a 13b engine

project 88 gxl 03-20-06 09:10 PM

haha... thats kinda obvious... i think that remark killed your thread. i got here a little late.

WonkoTheSane 03-20-06 09:26 PM

hey! that looks like my engine, wiith the distributor and all that! well, sorta like my engine.. minus the shiney bits.. and, um.. the FD upper manifold, and well.. . okay, okay, so all we really have in common is the distributor, and I'm getting rid of that this month...

I guess it's nothing like my engine:)

Pretty though :)

I just got off the phone with the tech dept. of MSD Ignitions. They confirmed what I had been told before. The 8202 Blaster II coils must be run in a VERTICAL position. They are oil cooled and running them horizontally will cause an air bubble to surround the wiring, overheating it, ad eventual failure. Tell your friend he should move the location to one that is vertical. I must also do mine and I agree it is a real pain. Better to find out now though than later.
