pics of electric fan intall

i've been a member for a while, and just though it's time that i contribute to the forum. hope this help out people who haven't done this conversion yet.

The fan is from a mid 80 pontiac fiero bought at pick and pull for $20, and the adjustable temp control unit was bought from auto zone for $15. seems to work pretty good. it's been in my car for about a month, and no problem so far.

Thanks for the pics, I'll be doing this mod soon. How have your temps changed since the install?

vulteiv 04-05-02 10:47 AM

since the temp control is adjustable, i set the fan to go on at about half on the temp gauge. works great, the temp is always half way. but i'm planning to set the fan to come on at a third when summer hits.

Could you do a write up on how to wire it up? I suck at wiring!! Looks good!!

dre_2ooo 04-05-02 11:08 AM

So is this more EFFECTIVE than the mechanical clutch-type fan?

FC3AZ 04-05-02 11:37 AM

THANKS!

grinchy 04-05-02 01:52 PM

what's the estimated hp 'gain' with this mod?

rico05 04-05-02 01:53 PM

Time to go to the j-yard!!!! Thanks a lot!!!! Archive this damn post!!

grinchy 04-05-02 01:53 PM

and which pin on the green plug are you tapping?

BlackRx7 04-05-02 02:24 PM

damn thats pretty kewl, I see you have an upgraded radiator....is the install the same with the stock?

amemiya 04-05-02 02:28 PM

your lucky I have a 87 t2 and I have tried every high CFM fan out there and nothing will keep my temp down and I run evens coolent. The onlything that keeps it cool is the stock belt driven fan.

vmb 04-05-02 02:36 PM

 do you have to install the brake fluid bpttle next to the coils ?
or was that added for looks :dunce:

vulteiv 04-05-02 04:00 PM

vmb, dude the brake bottle give me like another 100 hp. lol:D :D

vulteiv 04-05-02 04:01 PM

blackrx7, the install should be pretty much the same with the stock radiator.

Jerk_Racer 04-05-02 04:54 PM

It looks as though the plasic under tray is missing. You know, the big piece of plastic under the engine. I hear that thing helps airflow through the engine compartment. Going with that, wouldn't having one help with keeping your car running as cool as possible? Just wondering...

bingoboy 04-05-02 06:48 PM

Grinchy, The wire you are asking about is the one closest to the locking thing. And I think it's black/yellow. Hope this helps.

spik 87 trubo 2 04-05-02 10:27 PM

cool dude i am doing the same thing rite now just wit a probe fan how did you rig fan to come on at difrent temps i just have a switch

vulteiv 04-05-02 11:14 PM

the temp control unit that i bought had an adjustable switch that lets you control when you want the fan to come on.

vulteiv 04-05-02 11:16 PM

grinchy, i tap it to the green plug. there is six hold on the green plug, it's the middle hold closest to the locking device on the green plug.
