Periphial Port GXL
 

I am planning and buying a GXL I have already Bought A race motor From Pinapple Racing I am hoping around 300 + horse and hopefully run mid to high 11s NA when finished with slicks, I was wondering if any body else has fast Na's I would Like Info On a periphial Port Motor and how they run..

It is kind of hard not owning a turbo when your dad has a 600rwhp FD That runs 10s but hey i cant afford the insurance. So Na Is the way to go i guess.......

A p-port motor will run good but wont last long if you are planning on driving it on the street. Well I guess I shouldn't say that, but the power band will be quite high which might also be bad for driving on the street. It will also be hard to run in the 11's if you are going to running a stock bodied Rx-7 running 300hp. I can only run 13.2 with my TII which has about 300hp at the motor, I guess im not that great of a driver though. Hopefully this helps a little.

you are going to really have to beef up the drive train. you will break lots of stuff with 300hp. the turbo tranny, drive shaft, and rear subframe with diff and half shafts ect will bolt straight in. (all together, can't mix and match) and will be alot better. you will also need more then 300hp to break into the 11's.

and a PP engine is not streetable. hope you don't plan to drive it. it will idle around 2-3000rpm or so.

ouch. it will be a pain in the ass on the street. it won't make any power till high rpm. which means you will be reving to 5-6 grand trying to get the car to start rolling. don't expect it to last more then 10k miles or so.

a PP engine is a full out race motor. hope you don't have emmisions testing!

what kind of fueling ect are you using? carb? standalone EFI? you won't be able to run it off the stock ecu.

you wont hit 11's with out Nos, with a PP motor, slicks and a 50 shot, it might get you there..

Ok....stop listening to just about everyone. First of all, you can and will be able to daily drive the car. It will be a little loud, but not to bad to be pulled over by the cops. Rob knows his shit. There should be no longevity problems. Peripheral ports if anything are more reliable, (50k miles is about average for carbon apex seals.) and streetable than a large bridge port, if tuned properly.

If you launch that thing, at 9k rpms, and you are hooking, you should be able to go into the lows 12s. You will have to build the drivetrain to handle it though. If you're daily driving it, and are nice to the drivetrain, (not grabbing traction to hard.) the stock drivetrain of a 2nd gen will work just fine. My peripheral engine, built and tuned by Pineapple also ran a 13.9@109.27, without any nitrous. Running stock sized tires, the car would blow off the tires shifting into 3rd gear if you where'nt carefull at the strip. Thats why the low time, realy high trap speed.

There is nothing like the motor hitting the power band. The first time (in my 12a peripheral port- and ask Rob about it sometime:D ) i hit it, it sent the entire car in a drift, and the motor whent from 7.5k to 11k in a blink of an eye.

If you go carbed, the idle will be around 2k. Fuel injection, the car will idle about 1.5k to 1.8k, and a little lumpy. More so if carbed.

Scott, you've never ridden in a pp, have you? Let alone drove one? The low end torque is'nt that bad. Down low, its like a n/a street port. 4+ it starts making some decent power. 7k+ is where it will realy pull hard.

What about gas mileage? I am planning on getting a pretty good sized street port on mine eventually, whenever I need a rebuild actually. Anyone know what kind of HP I could expect with header to true dual exhaust? Oh ya, and what about HP too?

My efi pp got around 18mpg, and about 10 or so if i did nothing but in town driving. My 12a got around 21 on the freeway. CJ

My car only gets like 15mpg now(thats with drag racing basically every light and always running to redline just about:D) but when I actually drive on the interstate I get about 20 or more, never measured it really.
