PD/Integrated fuel rail

I am getting a fuel smell from my engine bay, and I know it isnt the pulsation damper, but since it looks like I have to pull up the intake in order to fix a leaking primary, I might as well fix the PD. Anyone have a PD or Fuel rail that they would want to sell? And maybe some 550 CC Injectors?

If your car is a NA; do not put in 550's! You will just run super rich and loose power. Deffinitely fix the PD while you're in there though. And as far as I know a leaking injector will not give you a fuel smell. The leak could come from where the injector goes into the rail, but when the injector leaks it just drips down into the motor where you would probably not smell it. Either way taking it all apart is probably a good idea.

I am not putting 550s in the primary, I was gonna experiment with putting them in the secondary positions! And its leaking from around the o-ring. I re-used my old ones cause I am lazy and cheap. So now I suffer the consequences. And its not a really noticeable smell, but anytime you smell gas in the engine bay, its not a good thing.

Yeah, that's what I thought you meant. Just pointing it out to some others readers who might not be aware. If you smell gas then something is wrong and should be taken care of. I bet you're kicking yourself now for not replacing those o-rings. When I had my intake off I went overboard and replaced everything that could be replaced except one set of those diffusers (those bastards are expensive); just so I would not have to take the damn thing back apart. It is more expensive but in the end, you will probably save a few bucks and alot of headaches.

YEah, I am a little pissed that I didnt replace them, but I would be ALOT more pissed if I had burned up my car.

So would having them as the secondaries help or decrease performance

Well, there are some that say it can net you up to a 25 hp increase at the high end of the band. I havent seen any proof either way, so I was gonna do some timed runs out at the 1/4 mile just to get some idea. I had a line on some for 25 bucks a peice, but I lost the email.

And these would be the people who are completely ignorant about how fuel injection works. Simply squirting in more fuel does not make more power. In fact it will definitely go the other way due to excessively rich mixtures, unless you have a fuel controller to reduce the output of these injectors. More air, with the correct amount of fuel, is what makes more power. NA injectors at 80% duty are sufficient for ~210rwhp, and I doubt you (or many others) are even near this. Replacing the PD and the injector o-rings is a very good idea though.

Okay, I am perfectly aware of the finer points of fuel injection thank you very much, and I am not going to go out and put 550's all the way around just to see if I can waste more gas then is perfectly necessary.....HOWEVER, if I feel like putting a couple of 550's into the secondary positions and making a few test runs at the local track, thats MY RIGHT! If anything, I will post the results so others can learn. No, I am definately NOT at 200 HP, but I am trying to make some quantative assesments about low buck mods on the N/A models so I can see what works and what doesnt.

SHEESH!!

Relax man, I'm just pointing out that, apart from all the obvious engineering reasons why this won't work, this has been done before by others on this forum and it didn't work! I was just trying to save you some trouble but go right ahead...

Its not trouble, its more like some sunday afternoon fun to me. Just tinkering thats all... SOrry, didnt mean to get all wound up.

Hey, do the experiment after you install an air fuel meter. My prediction, extra fuel will only help if stock injectors were leaning out at high rpm and load.

J-Rat 03-27-02 10:46 PM

I am just gonna go with the timeslip, I cant afford the Air/Fuel meter yet.
