Passenger side wiper arm not moving

Please help with this problem. When we had heavy rains 10 days ago the passenger side stopped moving. When I took the arm off and turned the wipers on it was moving. If the splines or teeth are stripped can a new arm correct the problem or do I have to replace the linkage. Any thoughts would be appreciated as which is the best way to correct the problem. Thank you in advance. AND YES I SEARCHED :):)

Did you look at the splines when you took it off? If it's the splines on the arm itself that are stripped, then a new arm will fix it.

Will the linkage teeth be stripped out 2. It was trying to move when the wipers are on.

You'll have to look at the splines on the linkage to make that determination. There are no other splines than the ones where the wiper arm attaches. The other joints in the linkage are just plastic sockets with ball joints in them.

I just tried another wiper arm and it and it shows signs that it wants to move but it is not. The spline looks a little worn. My next question is it hard to remove the linkage after I take the motor off?

not that hard. if you want a quick fix, try getting some modeling clay and jamming it in there to get it to hold on right until you can get a replacement.

What about dope tape that are put on the threads? In all my years of owning cars never came across this.

yea that would work too as a quick temporary fix, anything to cause enough friction to catch the linkage and the arm.

I had a failure with stripped splines. I was able to get it to work for awhile (over 6 mo. I forgot to fix it and sold the car) by inserting a star washer between the wiper and the nut and then tightened it down. I don't suggest it as a long term fix but it worked for awhile.

Pull the linkage out and have a look at it. I'm guessing one of the joints is probably broken. I think if it were the splines they would look pretty bad. Here's the parts diagram for a RHD... the only remotely hard part is popping the joint apart at the motor.

Thank You for the input. I will try to get to it next week on my day off. PEACE
