Passanger Power Window Not Working whgat could it be? 90II
 

I just found out today that "Passanger power window" wasen't working anymore? i took off the trim panel to see if the wring was disconected. and it "wasen't". could it be a burned "FUSED" OR A NEW regulator MOTOR? if it neeeds a new fuse can anybody pinpoint were i place the new one at?. i know its underneath the cluth pedal. All your help is most apriciated.

Probably either you have the lock out switch on the drivers switch on, or the drivers switch is bad

i checked that out already icemark. however the passanger power window as always the slowest window to close... ikeep thinking it was the motor

pretty rare to have the motors fail... 90% of the time it is the drivers switch. Pop the drivers switch and clean the contacts.

If you have the pass switch out and the wires available it is pretty easy to test.

at the pass switch, all the wires except the Black/Blue should be resting at ground. If they do not have ground, you have a bad drivers switch, or bad wiring between the switches.

The black/blue should have 12+volts on it whenthe key is on and the lock out is off. If it does not you have a bad drivers switch.

will the passenger switch raise or lower it? if it does, then that eliminates the motor and the driver's switch is the suspect. if neither switch works, then possibly the motor or a fuse

The biggest problem with the power window switches in these cars is that there is no relay between the switch and the motor. The full power going to the motor comes through the switch. Over time, this causes carbon to build up on the switches. That means there is more resistance in the switch. It's evident in the fact that the windows will move slower and slower; less power is getting to the motor because of the resistance in the switch. You can clean or replace the stock switches, but over time, the same condition could occur again. Or, if you have the time and understanding of how electronics works, you can install relays between the switch and the window motors like in this thread here:

Actually, it *can* still be a switch problem even though neither switch will move the window. I had the passenger window fail and spent much effort testing the switch, motor, etc.
Turned out to be the driver side switch had burned contacts and some melted plastic. I replaced it with salvage and all works, but not well. As noted on this forum regularly, the switch contacts don't take the high current of the motor very well and are the most usual point of failure and/or slow performance. I would recommend the relay modification described here:

that would be wrong... if the drivers switch has a bad lock out switch, the passengers won't do anything, conversly if the driver switch has a bad ground, the passengers switch won't work there either.

icemark, you have a good point. never thought about those possibilities.

is there anything that can be done for a temp fix like cleaning the switches so that they work properly?

I have a slow moving passenger side window and dont know when I will have the time to put in relays.

If you have a S4, then yes it is pretty easy to clean the contacts, but if you have a S5 then you are screwed, as the switches are not disassembleable.

well, I have a S5 now.....oh well thanks!

go pick up some of the better S4 switchs from a junk yard... they plug right in and are rebuildable.
