pass window wont go dowm unless done by drivers switch

i searched and only found post where niether worked or the driver cant lower the pass window.
both me ant my friends have the same prob. i can lower and raise it fom the drivers side but not the pass side, if lowering or raising from drivers side and use pass switch at the same time either up or down the window stops till i let go, so the switch is getting power.
i tryed to switch the child safety switch both ways, no effect. any ideas?

I had the same thing. I took the drivers switch apart and cleaned the safty switch rocker contact spots on the rocker and the little circle spots that the rocker thing touches.

i used sand paper at first, then ended up using a sharp swiss army knife to scrape the spots that touch.

I fixed it.

I would say there is a 99% chance its the drivers switch causing it. Open it and clean it.

^Yes, definitely reccomend cleaning the switches before buying new ones. These switches dont generally go bad, they just get dirty. Grab some sand paper and have fun.

thx guys worked like a dream

man I cleaned both sides really really good and it didn't do shit for me... man that sucks

jgrts20 12-18-05 06:44 AM

I have the same problem. It is the driver side switch causing this problem, I replaced the passenger side switch thinking it would fix it but it didnt.

S5 switches are effn garbage, just get a set of S4's if you dont have them already and clean them up, check all the wires and its possable you may have pulled a ground wire or something, check for shorts in the circuit and go from there

Funkspectrum 12-18-05 11:58 AM

generally it's the drivers side switch that goes bad. pull that one apart, clean it and try it.

Ok ive been throught this and i have one question. When you pull up on the switch thats not working can you feel it click or can you hear it click?
If not then the plastic cradle that the prong and spring go into might be cracked and its not sweeping from one side to another. take the switch out and unscrew both bolt's on the bottom, inspect the whole assembly really carefully. Lok for cracks dirt or bent tab's. Clean it up good if everything is ok like everone else said and give it a try.

Glad to hear you got it working.. for others having problems however..

This week I took the switches apart and rebent the lil metal rockers... I made the V a little deeper to guarantee contact in the middles.. and then compensated the 2 sides to make them straight again... worked like a charm..

previously, drivers side window and pass window wouldn't go down at all from drivers side..

Just a tip: use a pencil eraser. They clean the best, and there's no mess. I clean mine while watching TV.

Wait a minute, so if the passenger side switch doesn't work (or in my case, the passenger side switch can roll the window up but not down) then cleaning the drivers side switch will fix it?

I am confoozled...

Funkspectrum 12-20-05 05:15 PM

just pull both switches apart and clean em...

Yeah guess I'll try taking apart the drivers side switch later tonight and see if its heinously dirty or something.

I just don't understand how the drivers side switch being dirty, and being able to fully operate the passenger side window, can affect the passenger side switch.

Mombodogs 12-20-05 07:23 PM

The solution is simple and explanation is even more basic. The power supplied to the switches is routed through the driver's side switches. Do what funk says, and clean both of the driver's side switches, and walla-it will work. And it did. Just for arguments sake, I took off the passengers side switch, and it had more carbon buildup than the drivers. Know why?

Thank you Ice for the verification of my post. It's amazing the amount of information that is available to a person when they come here. Working on my car by myself, and the help of this site, it makes this car even that much more unique. And just for the record, thats two correct answers in a row for the dog! hehehehehhe Lets us know if that worked DREYKO>
