pass. side mirror replacement

can anybody give any insight on how to get the glass passed the plastic "cup"? im replacing just the glass and i dont want to crack it. ive looked in the FSM and i cant seem to find that in there at all. i could take out the black plastic back plate and press it in "off of the car" but i cant get the mounting screw back in if i do that. WTF???????????????

Unfortunately

the power mirrors weren't designed to allow easy and reasonable access to replacing the mirror.

What I can tell you, at least for the S5 mirror, is there are (as you are looking at the mirror part) behind the mirror two screws at the top and one at the bottom right that screw just into the actual mirror housing. The screw at the bottom left of the mirror assembly also screws through and secures a 'behind the mirror' arm of the bracket that connects the mirror housing to the door.

The issue is there is no reasonable access to ANY of these screws without first breaking out the mirror.

Best alternative is to replace the whole mirror painting as needed. Trust me. I've tried.

hey do you actually need a passenger rear veiw mirror?

on alot of the older cars they only had them on the drivers side...

yeah the actaull mirror plastic piece is there but the glass is gone....all you see is the black backing....i think the guy i bought the car from fucked up and ordered a series 5 mirror....or they sent him the wrong one

Im experiencing this same issue. Is it possible to just heat up the glass and remove the glass part from the glue like on a 3rd gen and most other cars?

I just need to access the back panel to either jb weld it or somehow fix the crack that is back there.
