oxygen sensor plugged wrong? a lil help fellow Brothers
 

hey guys... i dont mean to bitch about gas milage cuz i knwo everyone here has a problem with it but... my problem is this... my o2 sensor... well i cut the wire coming from it and attached it to a normal 8 gauge wire onto the wire line coming from the wiring harness... but the wire coming from the 02 sensor was puffy liek girls hair... i thnk it was grey or so it wasent an actual wire? anyways also im getting 10 mpg city milage my engine is lightly ported No emmisions... except for a my egr which is probbaly not working and my 5th and 6th are shut closed... i run premix as well i get about 20 mpg Highway though.. I used to get 18 -19 city milage... with one rotor working but my air pump was hooked up before that...

hmm...u need a shielded wire for the O2 sensor

That "puffy" wire you are refering to IS the shield. Shields are usually braided metal jackets that wrap around the inner conductor (seperated by insulation). A couple of sensors on our cars, such as the O2, emit extremely low electrical voltages, and any outside electrical interference from sources such as the spark plug wires will affect the voltages (called EMF). The shield "intercepts" and shunts to ground this EMF before it has a chance to affect the signal. The CAS wiring is also shielded, for the same reason...

Without the shield intact and grounded, the O2 sensor's output is going to be compromised, resulting in a bad input to the ECU...

The shield MUST not ever contact the inner conductor, so be extremely careful when splicing...

Good, you have an '88...Go to your friendly auto parts store and get a Bosch part number 12054 O2 sensor. About $35...If the OEM connector is still on the car (harness side), the Bosch will plug right in. Just keep the wiring from chaffing on the tranny upper bellhousing after install :)

they have universial one that is $16 all you have to do is add a jumper wire from the harness to the O2
