overwhelming smell under boost

Its pretty bad, ive gone up to 6k or so, slowly as to not boost and the smell is little or non existent. but when I get on it from 3k and it spools it smells horrible. am I to rebuild my turbo? :(

Need more info. From the description, it sounds like you sh*t your pants when the boost hit.

Selonari 03-18-10 09:31 PM

hahaha, its hard to explain. all I can say is when the turbo is spooling the smell is present.

tIIsleeper 03-18-10 11:33 PM

any color to the exhaust after you boost?

Selonari 03-18-10 11:40 PM

yeah I think my friends tell me some white smoke between shifts?

sharingan 19 03-19-10 05:45 AM

is this a slightly sweet smell?

Selonari 03-19-10 09:01 AM

no, its definitely not, the smell that gets in the cabin is pretty bad cant seem to explain it though :dunno:

Do you not know what burning oil smells like?

Do you know what antifreeze smells like?

Do you know what clutch smells like?

If not you need more help than the interweb can provide.

Selonari 03-19-10 04:13 PM

I know what all three smell like and it seems like neither, I used to get a burnt oil smell
from oil getting on my exhaust but I fixed that with an oil pan gasket. and it definitely
doesnt smell like burnt coolant, nor burning the clutch.

It's does seem like a burning odor though.

Are you sure you just arent smelling rich exhaust? do you have cats?

Go48 03-19-10 05:18 PM

Check all parts of your exhaust system for remnants of a plastic bag. It happens.

Selonari 03-19-10 06:33 PM

yeah I have cats and yeah im sure its not that.

and not sure if it would be a bag if it only happens when the turbo spools up :dunno:

God, I had that happen once and my car smelled like burning plastic for weeks after I removed it.

do you have an exhaust leak? You are probably just smelling increased combustion gases from the boost that are leaking into the cab.

ineedfc 03-19-10 10:55 PM

sounds like clutch.
