overheated my TII

ok i have gxl with a TII swap i was driving it an it would over heat all the time got a new radatior still new thermostat still.... thinking its water pump.... but drove it the other day an on the way home it overheated badly... i had no choice but to drive it home or leave it in a bad hood an risk my car... so i drove it home it made it good till i was close then started smoking white out the exhaust... i got home an shut it off started to hesitate up the hill to my house but i was realy low on gas so i think that had a problem to do with it to.... but anyway next day checked the oil an nothing was in there started think that would explain the smoke but i put oil in it an some stop smoke stopped smoking but now it leaks from the oil cooler... i stated it up the next day an started right up like nothing happened to it.... but smoked a little when it was cold... i drove it around it ran fine boosted everything... looked an it was leaking coolant from my waterpump housing so i think the gasket blew.... im hoping i didnt blow the motor but when i start it it smokes an when i rev it it pops like a backfire when you let off at high rpm or boost.... please give me some help guys... im goin to rebuild it anyway but its not goin to be for a while....

forced inducted fd dude 10-19-07 01:10 AM

ouch. coolant seals are hating you right now hahaha maybe that leak squirted out all your coolant and resulted in a overkill

texFCturboII 10-19-07 02:27 AM

yea you're fucked! shouldn't have driven around in an overheating rotary......

rotary motor + more heat then already there = rebuild.

pfsantos 10-19-07 08:52 AM

Check for champagne bubbles with the cap off...compression test also after. Someone put this in the FAQ...if it's not there already.

Hey buddy, no need to get angry about it!! For future reference: DO NOT OVERHEAT THESE CARS!!!!! No choice or not, walking a few miles is a lot cheaper than rebuilding an engine!

BIZL 10-20-07 12:05 PM

it wasn't walking that was the issue... it was leaving a TII in "the hood" with all "the gangstas"... at least this way he still has a full car minus runnign motor :)

Angel Guard Racing Team 10-20-07 01:11 PM

Hope you did not damage those sidehousings...

my point exactly atleast i still have the car i might need to rebuild the motor but this gives me that chance to port it an do what i want... ive put alot of money in this can an im not goin to let someone take it an mess it up for me.... but it still runs an drives just smokes....

texFCturboII 10-20-07 02:13 PM

true...... well good luck with the rebuild!

0verb00st 10-20-07 08:07 PM

Why didnt you just pull over, pop the hood and wait for it to cool down, that would have taken around 30 minutes. Or if you really needed to drive it home, pop it but dont open it and drive carefully. You could have also taken the hood off if you had the tools, or just pull over and let it idle until it cooled itself down. Good luck with the rebuild man.

Good ideas mentioned earlier but the one above is a BAD idea!!!! You don't know for sure WHY it is overheating, could be the fan, could be the pump, could be severe and sudden coolant loss, etc. Best bet is to turn it off, let it cool, check what you can, and if you feel comfortable restarting and limping home, stopping every few minutes

gabs88gxl 11-05-07 05:24 PM

lol yea well i learned my lesson the hard way but its ok im goin to build it up anyway im street porting i wanna send it out to brian in houston but ill have to see but im doin much now... thank you for helping me out with my problem though it means a lot to me...

GloryDays 11-05-07 09:58 PM

well at least its still running. i say go use copper weld to plug it up temporarily. i have no clue what my housings will look like after but ive used it on my na and t2 after i overheated and it stops the puking after every drive pretty well. keeps you from being grounded :/

phoenix7 11-05-07 10:33 PM

ALWAYS PULL OVER!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like you will need a rebuild. figure out what was bad before the rebuild goes back in.

Remember that one time when you flamed me for supposedly bad grammar? I only had a few mistakes, look at this kid. I could hardly friggen read it...........I understand now though, you dont have to tell me. It's because im canadian.

phoenix7 11-06-07 12:29 AM

hahaha, no, it wasn't cuz you were canadian, it was cuz you were typing all :ret:, but to be honest I didn't read the whole post, i skimmed and didn't bother bitching him out cuz that only gets me in trouble and he won't learn. It's called the art of accepting that the bar is lower and bitching ppl out about it won't make them pick up a book or a dictionary. I have had one of my posts deleted today already but it's better than a warning/ban.
