Overheat after installation of FMIC
I've just finished installing my Greddy V-spl FMIC and know the car reachs in cruising half way on stock temp gauge. Last year at the track the car after being driving really hard reached that.
What type of rad should I buy that would work for this as well as be relatively bolt in. Ian Skacel 88 10th AE |
First, go out to your car and make sure all of the plastic trim pieces and undertray are in place. These are important; they make sure all of the air entering the nose duct goes through the radiator instead of around it. This is doubly important with a FMIC, as both IC and radiator won’t be getting enough air without them. These pieces often seem to be forgotten or ignored when FMIC’s are installed.
Then search the 2nd Gen section for “radiator”, and you’ll get lots of posts on upgrading radiators. Fluidyne seems to be very popular. |
Before you spend over $400 for an upgraded radatior you need to buy and install a water temp. gauge.
You really have no idea what temps you are running. Really would be a good idea. You may find out your temps are just normal. The install is easy from what I found out. Also, you can try Redline Water Wetter. Some folks have reported good results with it. At least it would be a cheap start:) James |
Thanks for all the responses. I do have all the plastic trimmings up still. Except the bumper will not fit:(
I guess I have to order a temp gauge. I have been told that operating at half gauge is not uncommon and thats normal. Mine last year seemed fine but today it was about 34°C. Ian Skacel 88 10th AE |
it's probably too hot. commmon problem with a FMIC. the 86-88 should be running around 1/4.
check out http://www.absoluteradiator.com for a Fluidyne. I think I'm about to buy one. even without a FMIC I'm abit to hot right now. but you really need a temp gauge first. |
Fluidyne is nice. Again more money but the engine running hot scares me...
To bad we both couldn't order it together and see if there is a discount for 2. But then again probable not for two and you across canada from me:) Ian Skacel 88 10th AE |
