Over Heating Everytime I Accelerate
 

when im in 5th gear doing about 70 and up my temp gauge just starts going right up any clue to what it could be? When i slow down it comes back to reg temp!

coolant seal? any antifreeze in the oil? check the radiator cap also, are you losing any radiator fluid? do you even have any radiator fluid? lol!

Well I was pegged off my autometer guage(250F+) when I drove on the highway. I changed the thermostat a week ago and I never go over 210.

I'm seriously betting you have a damaged coolant seal in your engine. Only fix is to rebuild.

Stevo970 - I have the exact same problem. I'm going to get my thermostat looked at first, then have the whole cooling system flushed (maybe there's a blockage somewhere?). I'm also trying to get a hold of a better temperature gauge (one that's linear and accurate). I suppose another option is new radiator, but I'm not quite ready for that yet...

By the way, do you have an underdrive crank pulley? It makes your water pump turn slower (i.e. - less flow rate).

My problem seems to be only on the highway from about 70+. Let me know what you find out and I'll do the same for you.

Look at the water pump or belts or other minor stuff like thermostat and caps to see if they are working properly then i would check the major stuff like a coolant seal

Ther lower radiator hose should have some sort of large spring inside of it. This is to keep the hose from collapsing at high rpm.

I checked the water pump belt. I thought it may be my thermostat but I doubt it. I guess Its time for a new engine unfortunatly. Anyone know a good place to go with decent prices? Thanks guys for all your help!

Before doing anything expensive, just go pick up a new thermostat($15) and see if it fixes your problem. Then after that, go ahead and jump to big conclusions.

yeah im going to but i really don't think its my thermostat my engine needs work plus its got 124k on it!

so it only happens while going 70+?? I doubt it's the engine... do you have the plastic panel under your rad? and the ones infront? check your rad for leaves etc blocking it. get a new rad cap and thermostat and flush the coolant.

mine can't go beyond 220 Km/hr. ,unless it's overheated is it normal?

125k on that engine. Thats all? I have 150k on mine. I was having the same exact problem as your are and I live in AZ so it got really hot. I got an Autometer guage and I would run at about 210`F. On the highway I would peg off of the meter which went to 250`F. I replaced my t-stat and flushed the system and put in some water wetter stuff and now I run 180-210`F at max. It is cheap and extremely easy to replace the Thermostat. If you still run hot after replacing that and putting in new coolant then go for more serious stuff.

try putting in about 1/4th coolant and 3/4th water and some "Water Wetter". Coolant is thicker and tends to run a lil hotter, my freind almost burned up his Trans Am bc he put in nothing but coolant and couldnt figure out why, until he drained it and ran a 50/50 mixture, and this was in the winter. Try running a lil thicker oil, and look at your rad to see if it had any obstructions. Flush the system, replace thermostat and you should be fine unless you have a seal problem. In that case, just take it to any auto shop and have them test the coolant for exhaust gases. Depending on that test will tell you if you have a coolant seal (they may say head gasket if they arent familar with rotary engined cars :D). Good luck man, im sure you will figure it out

Mine did this EXACT same thing a week ago. Overheated under acceleration but not not at idle? Thermostat fixed it. Definitely do that first!

Before assuming the engine is bad, check other stuff. Change the thermostat, pressure test the system, replace hoses, etc. Also, be sure you have he underbelly plastic pan. It will seriously lower cooling capability if it is removed.

If the system pressure tests fine, try a new rad.
