opinion wanted
First off I would like to say this is a great forum, and I've spent hours reading and learning here. I'm in a bit of debate, I have an 88 n/a and it runs fairly well, but not perfect. The exhaust and paint are not too great as well. I have about $3000 to drop into the car and I'm not sure whether or not to rebuild or TII swap. I can spend most of the money on the TII or I can rebuild and use the money left over for other things like paint, exhaust and a few other things. Just wanted an opinion on what you guys would do in my place that way I know the pros and cons of my descision. Thanks in advance.

I say stick with the n/a bro just my 2 cents
If I were you I would sell your current car and take the $ along with your $3k and get a decent T2
With 3 grand you just just buy a pretty decent T2, I paid like 700 for mine with 88k on it.
Ha ha beat me to it |
Yeah, I say sell your car for as much as you can and buy a TII as well..
Well I bought this n/a because its the only 7 I've been able to come across. So far I have never seen another one in my area at all. I have been thinking about selling it and buying a T2 but I can't find one.
Look in newspapers, autotrader.com, ebay, etc.. I'm sure it's not hard to find one in California.. It only took me a month to find a nice one in CO..
Yea, I probably should just sell it and get the T2. This is going to be my daily driver and I know rotaries are headaches, lol, so how much of a headache is a turbo'd one.
mine is a headache, but it was completely reliable while on the road. My only problem was bareblocking it, doing the parallel fuel mod, and replacing a ton of old ass parts with new ones. It won't be too bad if you mod it properly and perform a ton of preventative maintenance..
Well if I can find one I will get one. I will look around alittle more before I decide to do something with my current car. I am seaching the autotrader right now and no T2's within a 100 miles but I'll keep looking.
Search the online newspapers within 100 miles of your area. If you can find a decent TII within 300 miles of your area, it's still better than busting your ass doing a swap, I would hate to source out all of the parts for a swap on a 13+ yr old limited production car..
If I end up keeping the n/a I'll just rebuild and maybe port it. But I'll continue looking for that T2 and drive this one for now.
try the classifieds its works great for so cal; thats where i found my rx. Good luck finding a good t2 here, very hard to find for sale and if u find one its probubly been drifted the heck out of. Just keep looking and for sure test drive the car and for insurance bring a compression tester; people can be pretty dishonest at times.
yeah sell your car and get a decent T2
