Open AIR BOV
**did a serach couldn't find relevant information**
is running a open air bov on stock rx7 a bad thing? |
I believe the bov is suppose to be recirculating and not just open air because when it realeases all the pressure the afm kinda screws up for the lack of air pressure, therefore making the motor hesistate for a second.....
|
i wouldnt say hesitate....
after giong from WOT with 5.5 PSI to no throttle i got a rich condition for like 1/4 of a second |
Pretty much you are releasing metered air into the atmosphere instead of into the engine.
Plenty here run Open Atmo's. I heard that the SAFC-II has a feature to help prevent this stumble/idle problem associated with Open vented ones. Not sure if the older SAFC has it though. |

but I like shooting flames when shifting!!!!
|
i shoot flames anywase when i shift and i have stock blowoff valve!:)
|
This is a ricer mod, hands down, no way around it.

boosting 20 psi with HKS SSQV and i don't have problems with any hesitation. shoots rather large flames tho.
|
It's only a ricer mod if you do it for the sound.
I got a Apexi BOV because my Jspec engine did not come with one and the Apexi is cheapest. |
there are many threads about "BOV or no BOV"..
some say its rice... some cant live with out it.... i have a $40 ebay one and I like it. It makes the ricers leave me alone. Everyday civics and misc. other slow cars will pull up and pace me. They rev at me and all. I let them hear the bov once and they leave me alone real quick. I mean it does say turbo on the side of my car... Thats not why I bought it... but thats why im keeping it on there. |
rice maybe but i still love mine

Originally posted by MtnRacer Let me rephrase: "Venting the stock bov to atmosphere is a ricer mod, hands down, no way around it." Better? ;) Steve People want their cars to look and sound bad ass. I know I do. Im really getting pretty freaking sick and tired of this whole "rice" craze. It is a freaking crime now to do ANYTHING to your car to make it look nice, if you do, you risk being called a "ricer." Jesus. Rice IMO is any modification or addition to a car, that is gaudy, distasteful, or tries to portray the car as something that is not (GTR badges on a mustang, no lie, I've seen em, or people that try to add all this race car jazz on a stock honda civic, just shit like that). Anyways, Im getting off my soapbox. Sorry for going off topic, that just bugged the hell outta me. Logan |
so there no detremental engine damage from running an aftermarket BOV ..only side effect is split second of rich ...and some flames
|

Originally posted by MtnRacer No arguments from me there. ;) Anyway, back on topic, Yeah there's no real harm done to your engine by doing this. Be SURE you plug the stock intake box withsomething that can't fall in(and possibly get sucked into the turbo). In addition to running rich for a moment, you can also stall your car accidentally, spit flames, etc etc etc. Steve |

Your engine makes a measly 280 horsepower after numerous bolt ons and aftermarket engine management! I am unimpressed!
