Which one would you choose Rx-7 or 240SX or Supra?
 
Well, the time has come to make a decision about a car. My options are a 1987 RX-7 Turbo II, a 240SX, or a late 80s - early 90s Supra turbo. I know it's gonna be difficult to get a non bias opinion, but please try. lolz.

240sx good handling - no power
Supra bad handling (too heavy) - good power
RX-7 TII good handling - good power

Which one would you choose?

Well, personally I chose the rx-7 (obviosly). I like the uniqueness of the rx-7, I love saying that I have a rotary engine powered car. Theres really nothing wrong with those other choices though. The Supra Turbo has just as much potential if not more that the Turbo2, although I personally think that thier kinda ugly. Also , the supra doesnt feel as much fun to drive as the rx-7, feels heavy and has a cushy, non-sports carish suspension. The 240sx would probably be my second choice if I didnt have an rx-7. Good styling, good handling, big aftermarket. However, it will NEVER have as much power when modified as the Turbo2, unless you do some kind of engine swap(SR20). IN my opinion, the rx-7 is definately the car to get, has potential to be crazy fast, has the best styling of all 3, and the coolness of the rotary. It however may have its problems inherent with a turbocharged rotarty, and will be pretty expensive to own of something goes wrong and you need a new engine or something. Cant take this car to your neighborhood mechanic, probably have to do all or most work yourself, unless you live really close to a rotary specialist, or have alot of money. I'd still chose the rx-7 though, and If you posted a question like this on a rx-7 forum, Its obvious you would too ;)

Although I dont know anything about Supras, I would pick a RX7 TII over a 240SX every day of the week, and twice on Sunday :D

That's a no-brainer...get the TII.

Having driven the other 2 cars, you're getting an unbiased opinion. If I didn't drive a 7, I'd tell you the same thing.

The Supra's a sled and the 240 is underpowered, but handles well.

240SX has a crappy 4 cyl truck engine in it ... (~1990 that is, correct me if I'm wrong) the Supra turbo is AWESOME dragster.. Fun car... but HEAVY my friend owns this car, and it's modded a lot.. suspension mods too.. and it still handles like an SUV... haha
Rx7 is great handling, TII is great power.... and semi-rarely will you see another car out there with the same type of engine :) oh yea:)

edit: oh yea, haha it's obvious you want the RX7 too :)

Unless the 240sx has an engine swap, there's no comparison. However, if it does, I would DEFINITELY pick up a sr20det over a rotary any day....stock for stock that is

I would have to say a supra turbo or an RX-7. My cus has a Supra Turbo anad its fast as shit. He runs low 13s with intake and minor engine mods. The RX does has subburp handling compared to the Supra and is funner, but I'd much rather have the extra power from the supra.

Go with the TII. But make sure you keep it up. Way too many bad examples of 2nd gens out there IMO.

Thats a tough one, I want to buy a TII also but I have fallen in love with the 240, because my friends have worked on silvias and they grafted a newer Silvia front end on a early 1990's 240 and it looked pretty tite. But I wouldn't wouldn't keep the stock 240 motor (junk) I would go with the SR20DET for drifting purposes :)

Nissan if you're planning a motor swap. RX-7 if your not. Mk III Supras don't compare to either IMHO. They're boats.

well when comparing the 3 to u.s. stock yes the FC would be my choice.

240sx - handling = average (no lsd) unless you get se
240sx - ka24de - alot of tourque...its a truck engine...

engine swaps are EXPENSIVE....
the engine itself might be not bad, but
there are ALOT of little things you must consider....it all adds up. you can talk to my friend www.lismotorsports.com and he'll tell you how much it costs for all the little stuff... cause it adds up. he has a 1997 240sx with a blacktop sr20det from a 97 japan silvia. He bought the engine for 2000, and he installed it HIM self, but still spent over 5k (and counting) to get his car up and running a little better than stock condition.

granted s14 engine cost about 1k more....

but...damn..there is alot of power in his car ;)
and its smoooth....revvvy....

also....
fc might not be a "sports car" :o:
u.s. spec 240sx then is definetely not a sports car
supra....i doubt it too...

I only talk about the s13 because i used to own one...

Some magazine, I can't remember which, had an article about an Sivlia swap they did for under $3k. I imagine they bought a beat-to-shit chassis and such, but if you know what you're doing, and do it yourself, it doesn't have to be ULTRA expensive. =P

I read that magazine (Sport Compact Car)

It was an S13 swap, forgot the details.

But there was also an article on a guy with an S14 who spen about 20K do to blown engines (2 or 3 times).

And I know a guy here who Turboed his 2.4 engine and it has already cost him $7K blowing the engine one time (BTW he runs 12.8)


So Personaly, the 240 is OUT of the question based on Cost of the other 2 cars, and the toalt cost of a turbo swap on the 240.

I like the Supra, but I ahvent driven one past 20 MPH to know if I like it better than my FC (na)

Also, SR20DET swap sounds fun on a 240SX, but it doesn't worth shit because of all the hard works and mistakes you have to put in it. Even with $5000, you cannot make it right, literally. You need major suspension upgrades to match the power.

A RX-7 with $5000 of mods can make anyone speechless.

Like I said on the 240 forums..... this has to be able to sufice as a daily driver. It would get 60+ miles a day and would also be a part time autocross/drift/and a little bit of drag car. It's gotta be versatile. However, the drift part is most important. With either car I would end up getting a Tein suspension package. The type RA http://www.teinusa.com/ This car has also got to sort of a beater. I'm looking for a car with potnetial for under $5000
. I know it's asking alot, but price is the main concern. I just got a job and I don't want to spend every penny on a car or getting a broke ass car to work. I't rather buy a car that will run and is RELIABLE and then put in the cash to make it great. Did anybody think of an AE86? (Corolla GTS) Cheap, good drifter, FR, anybody had any experience?
