this is one sexy ecu tester *pix*
i work at radio shack...made the ecu tester in couple hours of doing other things, just spare time type of thing....i think it looks a lot better, about the size of a 9 volt alkaline battery, will be stored more easily, and will be easier to hold and manage while testing than just two leds with leads.
just used a small project box, 2 12V LED assemblies, copper hook-up wire, 1/4 female quick-disconnect terminals. ya yea, here's the pics: http://members.aol.com/gotdatfiyah/ecutester1.jpg http://members.aol.com/gotdatfiyah/ecutester2.jpg next time i think ill do the soldering/heat shrinking on the inside of the box. http://home.rmci.net/panther/86_88ecu.htm is where you can find the CODE meanings, more detailed instructions, the simple way to wire it, and more info if you want a tutorial and cheap ass tricks to doing it my was, just ask and ill post |
Mine isn't sexy, buts it's permanent and stealthy. ;)

Wow NZ, that's damn nice! I'd love to do that while I am in the middle of my "let's see what else I can yank out/replace/upgrade" during this T2 conversion I am in the middle of, lol. Guess I will have to search the forum and get a good writeup of that (heard about something like that somewhere once, but can't remember where). Looks great though, and perfect spot. ;)
Oh, and nice job on making that tester :) |
I always wanted to fit in one of those bar-graph style air/fuel ratio meters in the warning light cluster, would be sweet but I dont think it would all fit.
|
I might even write this down on my calendar as a red letter day.. You work at Radio Shack AND you know electronics?

pardon my ignorance. But what is the purpose of and ecu tester???
|
To scan the ECU for error codes, and also allows you to adjust the TPS. Here is the one I made, cost me about $10 in parts (black case was like $8.50 ;) )

mine would cost you about $10 to make, costs me about $3 to make....amazing at the price mark ups of retailers
|
There's no need to spend money on a box to mount the lights. Before I installed them in the car, I used a 35mm film canister. ;)
|
hmmm nzconvertible, your setup is pretty nice...now its inspired me to wire up something in the car that looks high tech and will make people say "what in the hell is that"
