OMP shaft removal?

I was wondering if people are taking these out when they delete the OMP
If you just take out the shaft do you lose oil pressure or proper oiling to the oil pump chain?

I would leave the shaft in place as I heard it will cause oil pressure problems. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

But you can take off the C-clip and pull the gear off the shaft.

Amirite?

I left the shaft in place and took off the gear.

TougeMonster 10-20-12 02:37 AM

I have taken the gear out but there is about a half inch of play.
I've been thinkin about adding an oring maybe, to dampen the metal between the shaft and he block off plate

Anyone tried sumthin like that?

K-Tune 10-20-12 12:54 PM

The shaft doesn't knock around or anything, it's trouble free just leaving the shaft in there. It cant fall into the motor.

Remove the shaft if you want, but then you MUST tap the oil feed hole in either the front cover or the front iron and install a grub screw to stop the oil flow. It's just that simple. :) In the past I've gone one step further and totally welded up the metering oil pump area of the front cover and ground it down. Looks like a factory front cover except no metering oil stuff. Confuses the hell out of people and I tell them it was a rare factory race front cover. :)

Nice I like that fix better. No extra bits I have to worry about, like e clips falling off the shaft or what have you.
I jus broke my 6/32 machine tap tho, and because Its busted I I'm sure it's the size I need. Hah
I have no real access to a TIG so ill just use my banzai block off

Wait doesn't that hole where the skinny part of the shaft is let oil by to lube the oil pump chain?
If you block it off on an NA front cover does the chain still get enough lube?

The turbo front cover the oil pretty much gets dumped on the chain except for the lil oil deflector fin

Oil pump chain is lubricated by splash and a tiny hole at the front of the eccentric shaft in line with the oil pump sprocket.
