OMP and premix. any downfalls?
ok so first off its just funny when you go to the gas station and start addin 2 stroke oil to the gas tank before they start pumping my gas. get asked a lot of questions.
but anyways i recently started running premix in my car but i still have the omp hooked up., havent had a chance to take it off. is this anyways bad? btw its an S4 n/a |
well, as long as you are not putting a lot of premix in. 128:1 ratio is just about 1 ounce to 1 gallon if I remember. even at 256:1 which is half ounce for every gallon is still too much with a stock omp still attached. Atleast thats what I think. When I still had my omp still attached I premixed on ounce of premix to every 4 gallon, but thats just me, I dont know about other people.
most people would say that if your omp is working why premix. When I blocked my omp in my gxl I did a ratio of 256:1. At 128:1 you can see some blue smoke coming out my exhaust at idle. |
Nah, 1/2 oz. per gallon with the OMP still attached is about right. I've done that. It won't cause any problems, though it's optional and provides a minor benefit. IIRC you need to really go overboard on the premix to cause problems, and even then it's just some smoke and small loss of octane.

well why not? added security. what if the omp goes out? ill be prepared

Never said it was a bad thing. I've done it before myself, then stopped for a long time, and I'm about to do it again, just haven't gotten around to it. Helps sealing and lubrication a little. Heck, you could even do a full ounce per gallon if you want to be 100% covered in case of OMP failure. Especially in an 89-91 model. I have an 87 and that's less likely for me; pretty much just a minor help. So I'm lazy about it since I know it doesn't matter much. I'm thinking eventually I'll install a separate 2 stroke reservoir to feed the OMP. Then it'd be all benefit and almost no effort.
Worst case scenario at 1oz/gal., IIRC, it smokes a little and then you cut back next time. |
well nothing wrong with a little smoke. highly doubt anyone around here will complain either. alright thanks for the info.
