OMP Mod?

I have just read an intresting thread on some ones idear of running a stock OMP off an external tank of 2 stroke oil.

Could it be done now theres the E11 to run the Omp? or does the OMP have to use engine oil?

I am realy intrested in doing this mod and would like to get some more information on this subject.

I supose it all comes down to 1. Can the the S5 Omp be run off a External tank? 2. Can you get the Omp + E11 to put the correct amount of oil in the engine?

Thanks.......Chris

you can by the adatper to do it. it's like $100. it just spaces the OMP pump out an inch so you run your own line to it from a bottle. works with the stock ECU. so I'll sure it'll work the new haltech if it can control the MOP

and where can this adapter be purchased?

RX-7Impreza 09-15-02 11:19 PM

it is a pain in the ass, and it runs out real quick

Is it a bigger pain in the ass to premix? If not it sounds like it might be worth it. Also, I can see the E11 controling the electric S5 OMP's but I don't know about our mechanical S4 pumps. Anyone with more info?

why not just run premix and block off the omp if i had an 89 up car i would cause it is electrical and no telling if it fails or not the pre88 is mechanical and it is more reliable i still use premix though

How can it run out real quick? Last time i checked, i still had oil in my engine after 3000 kms of driving.

the OMP won't use more oil because it has the new adapter or because it is sucking on 2 cycle oil vs motor oil.

You can fill up the new bottle with motor oil if you wanted.

Just plumb in a level sensor into the stock oil level sensor so that when the bottle goes low the idiot light will light up.

from the website:

"Oil consumption is approximately 1/100 of fuel used. "

O yeh! that is what i'm after a neat way of pre mixing. And a good reason for me to buy a E11.

Separate tank for the OMP is a great idea.
Lets you run synthetic in the sump and synthetic two-stroke oil in the OMP.
I think it is expensive cuz the OMP in later models has to be pressure fed. Remember Gen 1 had a little tank and it lasted forever.

+ Any GM Washer Bottle Reservoir + Length of Rubber Hose from washer bottle to barbed fitting on adapter = OMP Reservoir w/ a 2quart capacity...

Am I the only person who thinks of these things or something?

1987RX7guy 05-06-03 01:28 PM

I think that this would only be worth it if the OMP, lines, and Injectors are working properly. If not then I would just rather pre-mix.

BTW I never found a link to that device that fools the S5 ECU into thinking the OMP is still on there when it is not. Anyone know of this device?

HIMNI Racing 06-18-03 10:11 AM

I think i'm going to do this. I'm sick of premixing.

I have the S4 OMP & front cover going onto my new S5 block. The OMP works & the lines are new. But...........

I don't think my oil injectors are any good. How can I test them?

Who sells oil injectors?

There is a procedure that you go through it should be in the FSM or your Haynes.

That's because you have a 5L sump. Are you going to hang a 5L oil reservoir in your engine bay? Probably not... ;)

Just plumb in a level sensor into the stock oil level sensor so that when the bottle goes low the idiot light will light up.
That's a very good idea. I wouldn't even consider doing this unless I had a low-level warning in the cabin. You're probably not going to get a reservoir much bigger than 1L in the engine bay (has to be 6" above the pump remember) so you'll need to keep a close eye on it. And if it leaked...

Mind you, if you've read Aaron Cake's recent comments on premixing and 2-stroke oil, you'd have to ask if this mod is even worth it. It's just something else to worry about without necessarily having any benefits. ;)
