omp, check engine not always on

right now i know my omp is bad and my light comes on but i can make it go away if i turn the car off and back on while driving, it comes on about every 10-15 minutes but i can always make it go away. is this normal? i would think that if it was bad the check engine light would always be on. an airplane mechanic said that he thinks that it has a failsafe that when it goes bad it continually pumps oil so that your engine will last, is that true? thanks

I don't have that cluster on my S4, but I do believe that if the S5 OMP goes inop on you, a toasted engine is in your future. At the very least, since you don't know exactly what it's doing, add a little premix (maybe 200:1 ratio) until you've fixed it...

are you supposed to do 200:1, i have been doing 100:1. it's not my oil gauge it is my check engine light that is throwing out a bad omp cod. if i turn off the car and turn it back on the light goes away for about 15 minutes. i have oil pressure too, it is a little lower than what the book says but should be in the ok range. why would i have oil pressure if my omp is bad?

All right, if you're already premixing 100:1, you don't need the OMP anyway :)

if my omp is still connected but has no oil left to pump will that hurt anything? how do i get my oil pump to stop putting out the code, i am tired of having to shut the car off and turn it back on every 15 minutes when i am driving. if i take the pump off and block it how do i get it to stop putting a code out, my friend said something about jumping or shorting the wires???

Not if you're already premixing...

I don't know if an S5 guru has figured out yet how to run without the OMP plug connected. Most guys just remove it from the engine, and tie it up somewhere with the plug still on there, I think.

Don't know enough about the S5 wiring for the OMP, can't help you much with your check light, sorry...

Maybe Icemark knows something???
