Old gas question
 

When I purchased my AE it had been sitting for about 9 months or so (blown apex), I have been working on it for over 3 months. So I am assuming that the 3/4 of a tank of gas it has in it is at least 1 year old. Is there any good way to tell if this gas is usable? Is there anything I can add to make this gas usable? I live in a California Suburb with neighbors all around me .. I have no Idea how I would go about draining 12 gallons of gas and disposing of it. I would love to just start over to be safe .. considering I don't even know what octane it is. I am open for ideas here. I have spend a fortune in time & money on this car and I will be starting it for the first time after the rebuild in just a couple of weeks.. But I don't know how smart it is to start it for the first time with shitty gas.

Get a small electric pump and some fuel line. Either hook it up to the feed line coming off the tank or just stick it down the filler neck and run the hose into a gas can. No muss, no fuss! If you put a filter inline before the pump, you could probably use the gas (along with some new gas in a lawnmower or weed eater or something. It is easier to get it out of the tank than it is to get rid of it! Nobody will take it. Toxic, hazardous material.

well, I think there is a drain bolt on the bottom of the gas tank... there is on my 87 anyways. But hell, I have no place to store 12~ gallons of gas. I don't think I want that much gas sitting around my garage If I had a 12+ gallon gas can. I need one of those nascar cans I guess. I have never seen larger than a 5 gallon can at the stores.

There is no good addatives to revive this gas? Somebody has gotta recycle this crap .. what do painters do with acetone/laquer/degreaser/paint thinner? It would be cheaper (than 3 5 gallon cans), and give me more piece of mind to pay to get rid of it properly than to store it.

Hazardous Materials pickup, depends on your neighborhood. Here in Santa Clara, you have to take it to a designated site to have them dispose of it. 5 gallons max I think.

Stabilizers can be added to gas if it's going to be sitting for a long time, but I don't know if it will revive the gas.

Oh, yeah, I firgot, it's good for killing weeds. But not if you neighbor works for the EPA!
No one would take the 15 gals. of gas I had. Plus it was YEARS old. Wouldn't even burn.
The city had a "bring-all-the-nasty-stuff-in-your-garage" day at the water treatment plant. All kinds of stuff, gas, oil, paint, even unidentifiable mung. Anything at all. Don't know what they did with it all, but it was at the water treatment plant!

haha take your old $hit to the water treatmant plant day! I need to move to St. Louis ... that scares me :) we can't even fart outdoors in California, its aginst air quality regulations.

I drained mine and put it in my sisters civic:), she doesnt give a shit about that car. My car sat for a year or so but the gas still worked fine for the civic. Then I put the good stuff in mine.

Ha! I was asked to not come back to California by the California Air Resource Board (Bureau?). It seems my diet was ruining the air for everyone!
The mteorological sevice said something about "atmospheric disturbances", too.

I've heard that there's a gas stabilizer that's specifically sold for your situation, problem is you need to put it in the gasoline before you let the car sit for an extended period of time. A lot of people that store their cars for winter use such products.

I think you're only hope is to drain the tank, otherwise the gas might be gummy and varnished and wreak havoc on your injectors. Try to use it in your lawn mower or something.

whatever you do. make sure you change the fuel filter too before you start the car!! it might be full of crap too.

Id say just take it all out and burn it little by little ...

Maybe I shouldnt admit to it, but back in the day, Id pour some gas on the large concrete floor of my garage and light the thing up. Doesnt burn for too long so It shouldnt take more than an hour to get rid of it :D

Just dont light it all at once OR make too big of a puddle
