Ok Another N/a To Turbo Conversion Quest.?
ok on a s5 turbo swap into a s5 n/a do you need a t2 rear end? the t2 d/s doesnt bolt to the n/a rear does it? could i just get a d/s made instead of buying a rear end??
well thanks jack |
Take all the stock engine parts out of a turbo II to put into your car,
just the engine itself and all the electronics that are required to operate it in stock form, not the turbo drivetrain (for instance if you cannot find one). This would retain your nonturbo drivetrain. This is not highly recommended, but can be done successfully depending on the driver. To do this you would need, at very minimum, an upgraded clutch and pressureplate to avoid major slippage of the clutch under boost. You just bolt an NA flywheel onto your new t2 engine and everything bolts together just like it did. that came from rotaryresurrection.com |
OK WELL my friend did a t2 swap ... a s5 engine into a s4 sport model.... well he told me that the drive shaft didnt match up to the rear end so he changed out the rear end to a t2...... i am going to get a t2 engine/tranny and d/s for 1500... do i need the drive shaft or should i change out the end of the tranny where the ds goes in to an n/a and use an n/a ds? im not even sure if its possible just asking lol i cannot remember if u can bolt and unbolt that part of the tranny...
thanks apreludem jack |
thats because it was fron an s5 to an s4..if you do the complete swap( rear end and all) then you need to use all s5 or all s4 parts...those parts cannot be swapped.
he says it better then i do: **Note that there is a BIG difference between the 87-88 turbo parts that fit 86-88 nonturbo cars, and the 89-91 turbo parts that fit 89-91 NA cars. IT is not adviseable to try and mix and match any of these parts. IF you have an 86-88 (s4) car, you need to obtain all 87-88 matching turbo II stock parts for use in the car. IF you have an 89-91 (s5) car once again from rotaryresurrection.com you can check out his website..has a wealth of info on t2 swaps. |
You will need a driveshaft. The turbo driveshaft has a different bolt pattern where it mates with the rearend. Some people drill the non turbo pattern in the turbo driveshaft so it will mate. Some don't. Some put in a automatic driveshaft which will mate but be a touch shorter than it should be. Some have a local driveshaft shop make one. Some buy one from Mazdatrix. Some.............

ok, i guess what i read is wrong...
|
hmm... ok .... then basically i throw engine tranny ecu and all the necessary electronics, then fix the drive shaft prob and i should be opn my way ?? cool
thanks guys jack |
For the drive line you can go thw ways mentioned above.
I am doing a S4 NA to S5 Jspec convserion and plan to keep my GTU rearend since I don't have a source of a TII rear end. I plan on buying the mazdatrix driveshaft because it will bolt right up. The down side is that the halfshafts and the Diff aren't as strong as a TII one but I'll find out what the rearend can take once I get the conversion running. |
