oil smells like gas

questions. my car oil smells like rich gas. and my car only gets 15-18 mpg or to be exact i can only go 250 A TANK

incubuseva 01-20-07 05:10 PM

yep. get used to it. i'm in the same boat as you. i think the only real solution is a rebuild.

Bama420 01-20-07 05:13 PM

Rx7s run rich. That's just the way it is. And if you're getting 18mpg, you're doing better than most of the people on this website. Welcome to the rotary lifestyle. We drink gas like the Irish drink brews and we choke everyone around us out at a redlight. You will learn to love it. Especially after you get a bunch of mods under your belt and beat the pussy that's always talking up his fucking Mustang.

"Especially after you get a bunch of mods under your belt and beat the pussy that's always talking up his fucking Mustang." Bama420 LMAO you are fucking sick and I LOVE IT....

incubuseva 01-20-07 05:22 PM

ahahahah nice.

djmtsu 01-20-07 05:34 PM

Yeah get used to it. I can use my oil as premix for my weedeater. Hmmm, maybe I'll try that.

And that is with a fresh rebuild, engine age has little to do with it.

NCross 01-20-07 08:03 PM

hey at least you know your oil level will stay steady for a little while longer. i think thats why i never have to put a quart in everytime i fill up... people seem amazed at that for some reason...

RX-Heven 01-20-07 08:17 PM

It has nothing to do with how rich or lean your car is running.

The gas in your oil is caused from blowby gases getting passed the side seals and mixing with the oil. Quite normal for rotaries, especially with high mileagae engines.

10mpg club. represent.

rotatech 01-21-07 03:57 PM

Just took a trip of about 400 miles. On the last 3/4 I carefully measured 23mpg going 90mph and redlining several times.
First 1/4 was in traffic and had some pre-trip city/traffic driving on 1/3 of the same tank, yielding 19.5mpg for that tank. Last 3/4 also included some traffic at the end.
I just hate it when people say their beat up engine is normal.
But hey, have fun, run it into the ground and don't skimp on the rebuild.

88turbotime 01-22-07 12:15 AM

wait i thought that if there was gas in your oil it meant you have something really wrong like a bad seal of some sort.

13bpower 01-22-07 12:22 AM

The stock "tune" on an FC is very rich. Higher milage engines use a little more gas as you lose compression but a decent engine in a FC should get you 23-27 mpg on the freeway. Alot of people who get under 15mpg to alot of stoplight to stoplight driving and have a heavy foot. There are alot of other things that can hurt your gas milage like faulty O2 sensor, clogged cats, dirty air filter, ect.

As for the gas in the oil smell..... Side seals are not sealing as well as they used to. Change your oil regularly and hope the engine lasts as long as possible.

27? Really? I haven't gotten better than 26 yet but maybe I just haven't had the patience to try. Is that with or without mods?

EDIT: I typically have no trouble getting 25 on my almost-stock '7, but without any messing around. Though it's been a while since I've driven that slow on the freeway for an entire tank. My real mileage is 17/23, and I have fun with that. Stuck in 25mph speed limit, stop sign ridden roads while making short trips around college I get 13mpg. And lots of yearning for open roads. Sigh.

13b_lover 01-22-07 01:01 AM

i get 25mpg messin around on the freeway with exhaust and intake but hopefully 28-9ish with the msd i just installed

misterstyx69 01-22-07 01:11 AM

I would Be lookin into a new O2 sensor with mileage like that. Also If the Car has been Flooded recently,or Floods alot, then you would be Gettin the gas into the oil due to that. This can be fixed by Removing/cleaning/replacing the fuel Injectors.Gas will break down oil,and we all know what happens when that happens..Yes!.. Rebuild time will be right around the next corner.

Rx7_Nut13B 01-22-07 01:25 AM

HAHAHAHAHAH 10MPG I WISH

Left it Rich

but 560hp@7400 needs alot of gas lol

yeti 01-22-07 07:53 AM

I guess I have a super heavy foot becuase the engine probably have about ~59k and 100front 110rear compression. I don't however have an exhaust leak so maybe I have clogged cats too. and probably other problems as well.

C.A.R 01-23-07 08:16 PM

I got about 6 mpg when I first got mine... It was very clean with only about 73k... I did a lot of regular tune up stuff and I get about 15 now... That is mainly street driving... And yes... I have a heavy foot... If I remember correctly though... The original stickers on the 7's only said they get 15-23 mpg depending on if it is street or highway... Or something like that...
