oil pressure? & warm start issues
Sorry if this has been covered a gazillion times already and I missed it. I searched the archive and got only unrelated hits.
What is normal oil pressure for a healthy, broken-in 13B? Mine hovers at the low end of the gauge when idling but climbs to 60 psi or above during acceleration. No leaks, no burning(I hope, see below) with good color and viscosity of the oil. This weekend the car developed a new personality trait. After stopping for 1/2 hour to 2 hours, the car doesn't want to start. The starter spins but the motor will not catch. It gives a couple of half-hearted sputters but will not fire. If it manages to start, it barely makes it, blows a big cloud of blue-white smoke and warms up normally. If I wait long enough for it to be cold, it will fire instantly without smoke. |
Sounds like your engine is flooding. A cause for this could be leaky injectors. Do a search on "unflooding procedure" and for your injectors check out www.rceng.com

if it has a blueish hue to it, then its burning oil as well.

Thanks guys. I'll check out the injection system.
Yeah, the bluish smoke looks like a domestic car with worn valve guides. What about the oil pressure??? |
oil pressure should be 30psi at idle and I believe 55 to 60psi at 3k rpm.

Thanks.
Mine is running a little on the low side. Maybe I should run a 40 wt synthetic... 50 wt? The MG Midget I once owned ran great with 90 wt gearbox oil in the crankcase. |
no prob, just helping a fellow louisianian :)
