Oil pressure prob on my new rebuild(I new somtihng waz gonna happen.)

Only 4 quarts?

Was your oil cooler drained when you did this? I believe it takes an additional 2 quarts if so.

the basic flow of oil path is up the pickup tube, through the oil pump gear, out the front cover through the o-ring passage out the front cover oil pressure hose to the oil cooler, through the cooler and out the rear hose to the engine block and up to the oil filter pedestal so my suggested route to follow would be:

1) be sure the oil is at the full mark on the dipstick
2) be sure the oil pressure bypass is installed in the bottom of the front cover, no way of checking this aside from memory or pulling the cover to be sure it is there and not stuck open.
3) be sure the front oil cooler line is not kinked.
4) be sure the rear oil cooler hose is not kinked.
5) make sure the correct banjo bolt was used for the rear oil cooler line to the block and that it is not plugged up with debris.


if there is still no flow to the oil filter than there must be a blockage in the system somewhere, you could pull the lines off of the oil cooler and be sure that they are free flowing and that the oil thermostat in the oil cooler is not plugged up but it is unlikely considering it made good oil pressure before the rebuild. only other thing would be to remove the front cover and inspect the oil bypass valve in the bottom of the cover, the o-ring, the e-shaft key and gears, the oil pump and the pickup tube for a possible blockage.

Even if he did drain the oil cooler it doesn't matter. The oil cooler doesn't open up to let oil into it until 149º F

Interestingly enough, when I was having the whole "no oil pressure" problem several weeks ago, I too never saw any signs of oil in the filter, or when squeezing the oil lines... Although this is obviously odd, I WAS getting pressure and my problem turned out to be a dead sensor.

Felix: Did you do the "airflow" test that Atkins shows in the video? (where he puts the air-hose deal on one of the front cover oil passages and feels a different outlet for air?
