Oil pressure low ?
I am running 30 at idle but when I goto 3k or 6k I am running only about 40psi ? Anyone know whats going on? I just replaced the oil cooler lines also and I am not leaking oil ?
bump anyone ?
not sure, 30 at idle is what i'm at, but when i rev past 3k, my pressure is up to 60psi. it drops to about 50psi or so when the oil gets hot at high revs.
Yea I am not getting 60 at all I get like in the middle of 30 and 60 and thats it.
sounds to me like you got a pinched front cover oil o-ring there are millions of post on the symptoms, and fixes.
yes sounds like the o-ring but u might want to check your connection to the oil pressure sending unit
try replacing the oil pressure sending unit. Also there was a thread somewhere about using cheap oil filter from auto parts stores. Someone claimed that it caused his car to have low oil pressure. He used a filter from Mazda and was indeed the generic filter that caused the low oil pressure..
But 40ish seems to be too low... you might have a pinched o-ring... |
are you using the stock gauge?? They are waaaaaaaaaay inaccurate pick your self up an aftermarket one for like $60 its worth it in my oppnion. That way you arnt chasing an imaginary problem.
Yea I am running a stock gauge and my oil filter is bosche or however you spell it. I just changed all the oil and filter so I am running castrol gtx 20w 50. I dont think its the o-ring as I have never removed the front cover and this problem just started.

I would seriously get an aftermarket gauge if I were you. I just had this probel, my oil pressure was NEVER above 40, and dropped to about 10 at idle. I was freaked, but I got an aftermarket gauge and checked it, haha 35 psi at idle and about 70 at 3k. So its fine, my stock gauge was lying to me the whole time. So get an aftermarket one.
And BTW, make sure its a mechanical gauge. |
Why do you recomend a mechanical gauge?

Straight off Mazdatrix's website...
This one is a little hard to explain -- bottom line is MAZDA changed things and never told anybody + did/does not always supply the correct parts !! -- in addition to that, if you purchase a NEW front side housing for your 86-88, it will PROBABLY come with the 89-92 casting style! What you are trying to prevent is having the gasket and O-ring squeezing out of place and blowing the oil (under pressure) into the front cover instead of through the engine. SYMPTOMS of this problem are lower oil pressure at all times, but especially when the engine is hot. A slight "squeeze-out" can give 10-20 lbs at idle, 40-55 at 3500rpm, and drop to 35lbs at 5000rpm. A large "squeeze-out" can give almost zero at idle, and maybe 35-40lbs above 2000rpm. The summary of all the following (our recommendation - others shops may differ) is: If you have the earlier front side housing style, assemble the front of the engine with the O-ring, no front cover gasket, (use silicone instead), and maybe a little Hylomar to hold the O-ring in place during assembly (and throw away the white teflon ring that comes in the gasket set). If you really WANT to use a gasket, then use the 79-85 one, which needs to be purchased separately. If you have the later style front side housing, use the gasket, rubber O-ring, and white teflon O-ring (and we prefer some silicone) --- gasket CAN be left out, and use silicone in place of it. |
You know the oil filter idea might be teh culprit in this case I Just recently changed the oil filter on Baby and now I'm experiancing the same thing. Try running a Napa Replacement filter. That's what she had before.
If you want to know whats causing my trouble now it's a Fram oil filter. |
Well I am running a bosche filter so could it be that ?
just a couple days ago i was running at least 55 even at idle, it was like that since i got the car and at 3000rpm it would be up around 90. then i let it sit for the weekend and started it up last night, let it warm up, now im having trouble getting above 30 when im on the gas, it seems to run the same, could this just be the guage?
if i was to premix when i fill up my tank would it realy matter if i had no oil pressure? what exactly is not getting oil if there is no pressure?
