oil pressure gauge... again! Time to replace...?

Ok, this is probably my 6th thread on this subject. The gauge hasn't worked since the original tranny swap a year ago. When replacing the old tranny, a couple of wires fell out of the riverside harness in the engine bay. Grounding one of the unattatched wires spiked the inside gauge 100%. i've read several threads about how the sesnor can be bad, or just the wire falls off.

after trying numerous times to resolve the issue, I've come to the conclusion that using the stock oil pressure gauge and sensor is out the door.

What do I need to install/use an aftermarket (either mechanical or electrical) oil pressure gauge and sensor?

Do I need the aftermarket block by mazdatrix that adds a space for the sensor? Or can one be placed in the same place as the stock?

What product numbers, what gauges do you suggest?

The car had been run for 8 months without a working gauge. I have done (quite) a few mods that I feel it is now very important I know the oil pressure. One of those mods was the thermal pellet.

thanks guys!

You can place an aftermarket sensor in the stock hole.

Not sure on the threading but if it doesnt work go to home depot and find their brass fittings to make it work.

anyone know the thread pitch of the stock?

Rex4Life 03-01-04 02:02 AM

Yep, it's a 1/8-28 BSP which is a metric type of pipe thread (British Standard Pipe). A 1/8" npt is close but no cigar--don't try it, the thread pitch is different. Of course, if you have the rear plate out of the car you can have it tapped to 1/8 npt, otherwise I'd just get an adapter. I recently bought an autozone special and they had a five pack of metric adapters, one of which is the 1/8-28 BSP to 1/8" npt. The adapter kit is made by Sun Parts #CP7573 (fyi 1.800.228.7667).

Good Luck,

Scott

p.s. Home depot won't have anything in that thread.

Doh, sorry about that I was wrong.

The greddy oil pressure gauge I got came with a fitting that went right into the stock rear place. My motor is a -RE though.
