Oil Pan Question?

Got a 90 NA convertible and a new Oil Pan and it has this angle piece on it that is different from my original dented pan. Im thinking its some sort of baffle? Maybe Turbo version pan? I look up the part number on Tascaparts.com and it shows a 89-91 RX7. I go to Mazdatrix and it says OEM California when my 90 is NA.
P/N N328-10-400E. What is the purpose of this angle and can I use it? |
24 hour bump. No one knows why the Mazda California pan has that angle piece sticking up? Or if it can be used on Federal Rx7s?

The only thing that would be at the corner of the engine is the rear oil pressure relief. my 91 n/a did not have that when I took the pan off.

New Year bump on this question? Anyone familiar with the angle baffle on why it is there on the CA version oil pan, but not on NA pans?

i have found them on various engines, as far as i can tell it is of no consequence having it there or not. i'm not sure why mazda felt it was necessary on some models and not on others, it really doesn't appear to do much of anything in my opinion, aside from possibly lower oil aeration levels which is good.

Your expertise is as good as it gets on this forum. I think the pan is safe too to use as is because nothing else seems different (on the engine side) that would be different in that area (NA vs CA). It does seem odd though that not too many people have seen this before.

Its there to prevent the oil that is bypassed from the oil pressure regulator splashing around the oil pan. As karack said, its to prevent aerartion of the oil. Not really sure why its on some model.
