oil pan gasket?
 

ok i was reading ALLDATA. its pretty much a car manual software at my autoshop and it said that there are some oil pans that dont use gaskets and all i need is the seal. would i be better off getting a gasket anyways? cause it looks like its been leaking.. thanks.

You can use a gasket or silicone gasket maker, I've used both. But you'll probably need at least one of those.

For my rebuild I actually coated the mounting surface on the engine where the oil pan mounted to with silicone gasket maker, then laid the gasket on that, them put a layer of the gasket maker on the oil pan too, put it on, and bolted it down. Let it dry overnight and haven't has a single leak since. Seems to be working quite well.

did u buy ur gasket on racing beat? or where at?

Whether it came stock with a gasket or without one, I never install a stock gasket. I lay down a good 4mm bead of high-quality RTV and make sure the pan is true, and that's it. I've never had a leak.

I got the gasket in my gasket kit for my rebuild from atkins rotary.

If you want to use one you can get it from the dealership or lots of places online if you want.

do you guys use black rtv or some special high temp stuff? I find Mopar black ATV to work great, it's so thick, you can easily tell the difference between it and even Permatex (I've used it for valve covers).

the best way that i have found for anything like this ,, and this includes water pumps , intake gaskets, etc is to use 3m weather strip adhesive(yellow ) and it holds the gasket in place and helps it bond.

the grey RTV works better than the older black stuff, it seals even if a little bit of oil/ATF/gear oil gets mixed into it.



problem with the 3M adhesive, you will find out when you have to disassemble those parts..
