Oil Leak: Leaking From Pan Or Oil Cooler Line?

i was inspecting the bottom of my friends 88 n/a when i noticed fresh excess oil around the oil pan. theres a leak in the oil cooler lines that we already know about. we believe its the line that goes to the front of the engine. is it possible that the oil could travel from the line to the pan? or is the pan another problem?

Not unusual for a FC oil pan to leak after 120K miles.

I had the same problem. One day I noticed that the oil pan was dripping. I degreased my motor one day and I noticed that it was coming from the the oil line that is attached to the second block. It was just dripping down to the oil pan. I would check the line. I eventually upgraded to the Racing Beat lines.

The best way to find an oil leak is to degrease the engine totally, let it dry, then start it and idle it for a few minutes. If you have an oil leak from a pressurized area, then it will become obvious as it starts to seep out. If it's from a non-pressurized area like the pan gasket, it could take several days before you start to see a drip. And keep in mind that oil always leaks from ABOVE where you think it does.

If you have a really stubborn leak, then there are dye kits available. You mix a little dye with the oil, and then use a UV light (included with the kit) to find the leak.
