oil leak

:cursing:
I have a bad oil leak (1 quart in about 4 miles) coming from the front driver side of my engine(88 rx7 se). This just happened today so I haven't taken the "splash guard" off, or dug under the hood yet. If anyone has heard of leak problems in this area, please let me in.

Is the oil filter turned down all the way? Is it leaking near the oil pan? Near the oil refill tubing clamp? Need more info...

maybe oil cooler hoses....that is the general area where it is at

Sounds like the oil cooler hoses or a cracked front cover. Pull the fan/shroud/battery out and you'll get a better look.

My vote is the oil cooler lines. Time to go order some from CS :D

Its raining here so I'm not doing it today, but it looks like it is coming from one of those mesh wires in the front, but I don't know where they are coming from or going to.

where is a good place to get them (oil cooler lines)

Corksport or Mazdatrix

Its not hard to do. Need a big socket to get the banjo bolt out. Its 23mm I think. There is a crush washer or two on each end of the line. Its really no different then a vaccuum line or radiator hose except for the fact that its a banjo bolt holding it on instead of a hose clamp. The routing goes from the front cover to the oil cooler, and the other line goes from the oil cooler to the rear engine plate. Check the FSM or haynes manual.

Oh, if you take the one off the front cover, you will need a wrench to hold the fitting in the front cover still. Else you may unscrew the fitting from the cover instead of the line from the fitting.
